How about "This power cord is dangerous and should probably not be used by anyone".

Would be good to know since some users like being able to buy US products while living in Europe, or vice versa. Heck - some users have homes in both Europe and the US and need products that can do both.

If you have a home in two countries, you can probably spare some change to buy an amp for each home

Re voltage requirements and transformers, this is a constant FAQ on the forums when people see the price difference on mega-$$$$ gear like Accuphase - pricejapan.com is one example - but I think it goes beyond that. I'll be in Tokyo at some stage over the next couple of months, but I wont be seriously looking at any of the electronics : I need local warranty and a dealer I can go to if I have problems. Headphones are a different kettle of fish - I dont know too many dealers that would even attempt to repair a headphone, so it would have to go back to the factory anyway. When I imagine Akihabara, I literally start drooling - Jude and Amos have a lot to answer for with their Tokyo vids and blog entries  :D

(FWIW, I have no such concerns with computer hardware - most of it is cheaply made and cheap to replace : much happier to replace a dead mobo than even think about lifting the lid on an amp)

With respect to transformers, yep, all of our stuff is dual-primary (so, either 115 or 230 compatible), hard-wired in the chassis to avoid someone switching the setting to "see what it does." Though that's less of a problem in other countries than the US, which constantly amazes me with respect to its lack or awareness of the standard AC voltage. We once received an email from a relatively high-level person in the US Department of Energy asking if they should order 115V or 230V. It is framed on my wall.

With respect to Japan, yep, 100V is a different thing, either requiring more primary taps than we have pins for (in PC-mount transformers), or separate transformers. I expect we'll have 100V products with dedicated 100V-only transformers this year; we're getting to the point where we can do special runs.

Perfectly understandable.

Too bad Im on the same boat as the others from outside US.

In some case it might be cheaper for me to grab a last minute flight to the US, but the Ragnarok, and fly back rather than ordering it and paying for customs.

Still, at 6700 PLN + Transport (polish currency), its about a two month salary for me, not to mention Id still need the yggdrasil to get the best out of it 8(.

I might not be able to afford it unless I stay single till 35 :D.

Jason,

Are there any specific amps you used as targets when developing the Ragnarok? Not asking for a comparison; just curious if there were any competitors that you specifically looked at.

Jason never compares their products to other companies products. He doesn't use what he considers the hard sell...im sure the only thing he would say is that he tried to design and build the best headphone amplifier that he could

Hence me specifically saying I wasn't asking for a comparison ;)

I just thought it'd be interesting to know if there were other amps they specifically looked at as competitors to the Rag. He (obviously) doesn't have to comment on whether they think they've bested them or not.

You could probably answer that yourself - I would guess the GSX MK2 / HDVD800 / EF6 / and maybe the Cavalli LG

Well yes, but it wouldn't make it any less interesting to hear directly from Jason.

It would, but he will probably resort to professionalism and honorably avoid the question. Competing with the GSX MK2 will be the goal I think. I men it must be the most versatile headphone amp made, bringing planar and dynamic headphones to their ceiling. If the Rag can get close it will be a success. If it can surpass the GSX it will be a truly amazing achievement.

It's seems like the rag is ment to be a unique build all in one amp, perhaps not targeting any other amp
post #1559 of 9301

True I suppose. I just know that if I was developing an amp I'd at least have no problem saying "We looked at the Mjolnir and EF-5" or something similar.

I think I'm also just curious how much Schiit checks out the competition :)

Seems to me it's pretty clear what Jason's aim is: "Ragnarok is the world’s first universal amplifier"
