Hi Jason,

I am looking to get a dac for my hifi system. After looking through head fi forum. I have stumble upon schiit and heard nothing but amazing praise on all of your dac and headphone amp. I wanted to get a dac that can potentially last me for the next ten years ( knowing that the digital world is a fast changing world). At first I was looking at the gungnir and then I found out about the Yggdrasil. Can you tell me exactly what am I expecting to hear in terms of differences between the two? I am planning to hook it through either USB or coaxial digital from my computer to it and then analog out to my receiver. Also it might sound like a noob question, but I am curious why would a dac weight 30lbs? Of course I am excited to hear it weight so heavy as it most probably mean heavy transformers or different power sources. But can you elaborate a little? Thanks for taking the time to answer the question.

^ You might start by reading this and the Schiit DACs thread so Jason doesn't have to answer the same stuff all over again. Try the search tools, including "search this thread" to get specific help. Google is as good or often better than these tools.

As this is your first post, welcome but beware of "amazing praise" on head-fi. It tends to run rampant!

That said, praise for Schiit and its products does seem well deserved.

It's important to get the Halo-products right.

If there still are improvements to be made I think they should take their time.

I thought I was the only one who noticed the halo names.

Halo in this case wasn't meant as the game, but rather top of the line cost-no-object type product, like the Sennheiser Orpheus is a halo product. The words halo and statement are pretty similar in this use, but not exactly the same.

In other news we have new pics of the Rag in all it's fantastic glory. Still in prototype metal, but looks great anyways.

That thing is a beast.

Now you made my Modi sad.

I have to admit... I scrambled on seeing Max's picture to see if the Dac behind the laptop looked different from my Gungnir. Sadly, no. The cooling holes and the led spacing says Gungnir. Since I can't offer anything new about Raggi or Yaggi, let me offer folks Yogi

trying to wait patiently.

WOW, that looks awesome!! (and a proper power switch too  )

Now I have a real dilemma, wait for this beast or go for for Mjolnir now and then first upgrade my Gungnir to Yggdrasil and after that upgrade from Mjolnir to Ragnarok.
