New Schiit! Ragnarok and Yggdrasil - Page 68

Search Jason's posts here-he somewhere posted how the Rag has morphed into something much more complicated than originally posted in the OP. Definitely seems to be a much different beast than simply an MJ w/ more power/bells/whistles. I'm also personally interested in the voicing myself, as it seems most of Schiit's stuff was voiced with Audeze in mind, rather than say the HD800.

Either way-I'm grabbing one for sure to try...

Leviathan. Duh. wink.gif I'm like the most vocal HD800 tubes or bust guy around lol.

Looking at the Rag as an ss 'tube life extender' for my Levi.

Fo sho, my interim is the Stratus. The Levi can't come any faster..

You get in on the Levi build?? Too late for the Tango option? Also: my DP1 for your AMR, pretty please. tongue.gif

Back on topic-I wonder if the Rag is still on pace for release this month...Jason?

I've read through the thread, but couldn't find any hint on the voicing. You'd think it would be more neutral than the Mjolnir, wouldn't you? I'd rather have a more neutral version of the Mjolnir than an uberMjolnir that has the same voicing, but can drive IEMS to speakers.

OT: Yea I did but it seems more delays (which is understandable). From what I understand everything is up in the air right now. My AMR was up for sale till a few days ago! Would have been dead sexy with the Levi.

On topic - I think the early reports said that the Rag was voiced differently than the MJ. Less in your face, but just as dynamic and hard-hitting. I think I remember reading that Jason and co. used the HD800/LCD-3 as their main headphone when tuning. Not sure where I read that though.

I never noticed the voicing comment-just that the Rag took on a whole other dimension once it got underway. It mighthave been the SchiitFan thread (Unite?) or the MJ thread he mentioned it in.

I would love that if true. Honestly if it is even a smidge better than the Bryston w/ the HD800 that would work for me. Also, didn't realize the AMR sold-what are you planning on? Do you already have the Analog in your sig? Ever thought about the Overdrive SE? Yggdrasil (see-back on topic!)?

Ok, that's promising. Any SS amp that can do both the LCD-3 and HD800 justice has got to be neutral and transparent. The LCD-X was pretty much sitting on the edge of the Mjolnir bubble for me.

Yep, didn't want to sell - but a technical mismatch with the Dynahi had me needing a balanced DAC. I've had the Analog for awhile, right now it is in my speaker system but I'll probably move it into my headphone system temporarily. Right now my options are limited, but the front-runners are definitely the Overdrive SE (if I want to spend that much) or the Ygg. Nothing else is very interesting to me right now. Maybe the Phasure, but I'll need to check if they have made any more progress on the software side of things. I'm hoping the Ygg is a big hit and punches way above its weight. I'll probably get one as soon as they are available and find out for myself. If I like it, great if not Overdrive it is. If I keep the Ygg, I probably will add a OR6 when it comes out.

My thoughts exactly on the Yggi/OR6. I've had a gut feeling the Ygg is gonna break barriers. Just don't as me why. Weird hunch.

Maybe cus its price is actually scary? :D.

Once you pass the 1K dollar mark, Its an ocean of DACs and AMPs out there that unless you work on a audio store (Maybe I should look for a job there next time), You almost always will end up guessing whats better and whats not.

I dont know how it is in the US, but in Poland to get to listen to 10-15 DACs is rather Mission impossible.

The one thing that really bothers me is that Schiit gear costs almost double the price here, so a Ydgrasill would probably land in around 3.5k dollars...

Im quite sure it would be cheaper to get a plane to the US and just take it back with me.

Quick update on Ragnarok: STILL waiting for metal.

Which means the one at the Bay Area meet may still be in unanodized pre-production metal. We'll see--and I'll let you know if the metal that comes in is suitable for shipping when it does.

Please note that metal is not the only gating item—we will need some time for run-up of first articles from the board house, and to work out production snags/final firmware glitches when they're approved (this isn't like our other stuff--it's really almost a craft-build item...a whole different line than everything else.)

I should know more on Yggy soon.
