HiFiMan RE-600 Review - Page 27

Any recommendations on the best way to connect the RE 600 to a AV receiver?

Will the sound degrade if I connect it to a 3.5mm extension since there is already an adapter connection on the iems?

Will the sound from my AV receiver (Pioneer VSX 1021) make it sound as good as the recommended HM 801 player?

Thanks in advance.

No.  I run any of my headphones/IEMs with my SC-LX73 and none is even remotely close to how good they sounded on my hm901.

There's an RE-600S?  What?

Had the same question, hifiman.com doesn't explain it clearly but from their online store :

RE600 http://head-direct.com/Products/?act=detail&id=157

RE600S http://head-direct.com/Products/?act=detail&id=174

Seems that  RE600S is the single ended version of RE600, for those who absolutely sure they won't ever get a balanced source for RE600.

Oh, it's cabled differently than the regular. It won't have a balanced TRRS cable, instead will confirm to the regular TRS cable.

Of course they would put that out soon after I had Moon Audio re-terminate my RE600 precisely to do the same thing they are now selling as RE600s.

+1… Well, no, not quite as I haven't had mine reterminated (yet), but dang I wish the S had been out when I ordered mine.

I still despise that cable highly...

Oh, how much trouble that thing causes...

True - so instead of people talking about great SQ of RE-600 (which is definitely there) the conversations are about crappy cable. Amazing.

And the most disappointing thing is that they were apparently criticized for this in the past regarding their other iem's and learned nothing from it (at least I remember reading about it somewhere on this forum).

I know. You have no idea how much I admire HiFiMAN for their products sound quality, but their build quality leaves a lot to be desired :/

not sure if I'm extremely careful with my stuff or just very lucky... but never had problems with any HiFiMAN stuff.

Below is paragraph I pulled from the very first post (review) of this thread - I can promise everyone that I have not attempted even a 1 swing test with these but the cable still started falling apart even during very basic use (so if this is so far off from the truth, it unfortunately makes difficult to believe other stuff hifiman is saying - so sad something like cable can cast the shadow of the doubt over otherwise outstanding phones).

"Addendum #2: Fang replied to my question regarding whether the cables are reinforced for additional strength and he said yes, that they had the most kevlar possible used in their construction and that they passed the "11 thousand times swing test". I am not sure what this test is, but it sounds as if the cables should be extremely durable despite the small size. Very encouraging to hear."

Yeah well... Even if they did that, the cable is still prone to tangling more than anything for some bloody reason.

No matter what I do, it just won't stop tangling up and would never lay flat. Just never.

Maybe they should try "11 thousand times tangle test" instead... I guarantee the cable will almost certainly die after 50 - 100...

No matter how hard I try, the cable just does whatever it wants and whenever I pick the HP up, the cable looks horribly... Even though it was fine when I rolled it up.

To Music day wondering about Tera - Re600 combo:

Better than Re-272 and Re-262 for sure, yet still missing in bass and sub-bass.

75 ohms adaptor helps a little with bass but decreases volume.

Re-600 sounds superb with balanced HM801
