My ZX1 dap in the house :) It was charging/uploading then but now I'm actually listening to it. It takes quite some time for 100+ GB to be loaded and then updated all at once. This will probably be my portable rig for the next week or so until I start getting some of my ciem back from refits.

So I received the meelec balanced tips the other day and I am impressed with the sound of the fa4's with these. Like Moon has said before, they reduce the mid bass, and bring up the upper mids and vocals increasing detail. I like their presentation this way.

Now to the down side, the tips are a bit of a tight fit for my ears, especially the left one. So I can always feel them in my ears unlike the stock tips. At first they made my ears itch a lot, but they seem fine now. Ideally I would like some tips that have the comfort of the stock ones with the sound of the balanced ones.

Custom tips will provide you the best sq and best isolation-comfort.

custom tips are a significant upgrade from stock tips but their use is not very popular as they are expensive and you have to take molds but i did the whole process with earprotech in madrid which isn't far of my home so to me it was easy and relatively cheap

I have considered custom tips, but its the cost of getting ear moulds done for one set of tips that is putting me off as opposed to the price of the custom tips them selves. If I ever decide to get custom iems, I will definitely get custom tips at the same time.

Good thing about custom tips is that they fit other universals with more or less the same nozzle diameter and to me it's like have some customs. in my opinion the most important difference between universals like the fa 4e or good customs is the perfect fit, i didn't try customs iems but difference in sound between stock and custom tips is obvious.

Cecala didnt't arrive your fa 4e yet??

I think all earphones with this kind of generic custom form have the same nozzle. When my 1964 ears customs come back I'm going to have them get me a set of custom tips. It's only 100 since I don't have to do more impressions and I might get a remold but not sure about it yet. It should fit these and the UM Mentor I bought.

Mentor are 10 drivers per side? Rawster you are unstoppable! Yep they should fit both and make them quite better too

Mentor are tempting... I'm very tempted by Spiral Ear 5way or the Custom Art Harmony that is not released... The darker or the brighter side of the force ? :s

I have them although no music player to make magic with. I am deciding at the moment to go the Sony ZX-1 route. Will see what happens at CES 2014 if anything new is released or updated

And yeah. They sound very good with almost anything. Emphasis on VERY GOOD. Solid performance not really dependent on source. But true, they shine with sources with good forward upper mids and nice soundstage. So ideally something just a bit bright if you enjoy a more neutral sound signature.
