Fischer Amps: FA-4 E XB - Rhapsody series (3/4/5 drivers upcoming) - Page 73

Not really but it's much more work to put them in and out. The fit in terms of how low profile is fine but I'm going to try my custom cable. I remember having a better time since it didn't have a memory wire.

On another note it's nice with my Mentor lol

Hey rawster what about isolation, comfort and sq?

So I put on my custom cable and things seem to be better. Also wetting the tips a bit before helps as well. It's a bit more low profile than before so that helps. Isolation is good but not as good as my customs.

The sound has changed slightly. It's a bit less warm than I remember but that's it for now. I haven't heard the FA-4 in a couple weeks.

edit: I think I'm getting the hang of the custom tips and I really like them. These are my first custom tips and I would consider getting them on my UM Mentor but the plan is to get them reshelled down the line. The sound is more in tune with what I like. The tips I were using previously made the FA-4 warmer. However now it's better balanced. It's still has a slight warmth that's similar to my SR007. It doesn't have the clarity of my Mentor but for a warmer iem it isn't too bad. There is some improvement with the custom tips but how much of an improvement is yet to be determined. So far it seems like stretching it out to the last 1% or so however.

Also the logo fell off finally or rather one did probably when I was having trouble taking the iems out of my ear. I didn't like one being there and one not so I took off the other one as well. The only annoyance is the sticky residue you get after it comes off.

Guitar polish or furniture polish takes the sticky residue away nicely.

Aw crap, that sucks. I've been handling mine by the outer edge trying to avoid touching the logo areas.

I like them better without the logo so no big deal. I was waiting for them to come out anyway.

Hey rawster it was me the one with custom tips yeah.

Did you do some a-b testing between stock vs custom tips  to check the sound improvements?, if i comparethem against the comply t500 (my favourite stock tips with the fa 4e) i can hear everything clearer, detailed, extended and with better bass response I can say they are a very good improve in sound. On the other hand you say clarity is not bad for a warmer iem, if i compare the fa to my other 500 dollars iems they are way more clear man!. About isolation, with custom tips...for example if i go by car with them i can barely hear nothing (radio, motor, conversations).

cn11 did you buy the shure 846 god! I was waiting to see a comparation between both

Well you have to realize what I have for clarity. This is the only $500 iem I have. The only other universal I have is my UM Mentor which costs much more and the rest I have are customs.

I did. I actually bought them at a Sound & Vision store in the Hong Kong airport for the long haul flight back to the States. I enjoyed them for movies on the plane, and with the ZX1.

I think I've finally got the best sounding tips figured out- Sony Hybrids. With the white treble filters on, and the Hybrids, I'm getting sound quality which does exceed the FA-4E, but not by much at all. It's still amazing the value the FAs represent. What the Shures do better is bass extension. I mean, they reach dynamic driver low. It's really thrilling stuff as there is no muddying the mids at all. It's only there when in the music, and when a particular song with no real low extension is humming along, the 846 can sound like a typical bass light IEM, but then when the really low stuff hits (20-30hz), you get this low subwoofer quality sound. It's the one thing that I wish the FA-4E had (even with others' rave impressions on the low end, it does not compete with the 846). If there's anything I miss about the FA-4E's sound, it's that sublime smoothness while the detail and resolution is there. I think perhaps the 846 is a touch edgy sometimes. Soundstage size is very similar between the two, with the FA having a tiny bit more vertical height to the stage.

So yeah, the 846 is fantastic, but I'm not sure about almost double the price. I'll be keeping both IEMs though. Neither is going anywhere anytime soon. But I think the SE846 may get the heavier ear time with that awesome bass performance.

Great impressions thanks!, I've seen the 846 available in thomann but price is 990 euros while the fa are 380 euros!!

I've seen the 846 for $999 which is better, but still loads.

But 999$ considering custom taxes steal in Spain will be more or less closer
post #1094 of 2143
$999 is loads for sure, I agree. And I would say that the gap from the FA-4E to the 846 is pretty negligible compared to that price difference. For me though I like both and the 846 is worth it for the improved low end alone. There's a drive to music and boogie factor that the FA-4E cannot touch.

I still think it's amazing value for $$ with the FA-4E... Heck it is right in the same league overall as the 846, and I think it outperformed my TG334, which was $1,350.

I seriously want to know what you do for a living to be able to just buy the Se846 to use for movies and sometimes when the mood strikes :P
