The tips are much better actually. I'm thinking of just keeping it as it is. I get a pretty similar sound but just slightly bigger sound stage and better comfort. I bought a Silver Poison cable that was supposed to go to my JH13 but I put them on these. I also bought the Sony ZX1 dap yesterday so after it comes in 2 weeks or so I should be all set.

Glad you enjoy them with that tips having few customs in your collection maybe stock tips are a better choice than custom tips, tell us the improvements with that cable when you can!

Not to start a cable debate but I don't hear any difference with stock and custom cables. Right now I'll probably use these at work and when I'm on the go. I'm going to have my UERM reshelled eventually and going to send in one of my customs instead of impressions so can use the FA-4 in those kind of situations.

I hear little difference between stock, Fiio and 93spec. The differences I hear are mostly in the detailing and ambiance. Not much difference in the bass since it's not boomy or loose to begin with (at least with meelec balanced). I dare say that maybe I would have 65% success ratio in picking the right one between Fiio and the other two. Maybe up towards 80% in picking the right one between 93spec and stock cable. If I were to hear the sounds side by side instantly I think I would be able to pick them out quite well. But with the switching and everything I'm not too sure.

I would really rate the differences as minor. I do however hear an improvement in reverberations and room acoustics with the 93spec and overall just a bit more openness. However if I were to rate the contributions to the sound I'm hearing compared to stock I'd say:

Stock FA-4E 70%

Meelec balanced tips 15-18%

Apex Glacier 7-10%

93spec cable 5%

Just to put some numbers down that I feel are representative.

EDIT: And to further clarify this: the numbers are approximations of the individual contributions towards my preferred sound signature which is pretty much neutral/flat with a slightly enhanced bass. So all of the changes from stock bring out the upper mids + treble and decreases the bass + lower mids. If you're fine with the sound signature, don't bother! :D

Did you try the meelec balanced tips rawster?

Your customs should sound incredible man! my fa 4e plus custom tips really wow me 95% of the time. i have the chance to get the ie800 or customs for christmas but what I'm hearing is just so good that I'm going to stay with the amps for now.

About the cable i prefer the stock to my pearl from effect studio...

It's difficult to imagine better when we don't have better ;-/ and if it's your favourite sound signature it's even more difficult to find something really better !

I have tried those tips and didn't like them much. Usually the tf10 tips do it but the Ortofon tips I got were better.

As long as you are happy with these there really isn't a need to get customs unless you want a nice set of customs.

I concur and people are better off buying different or new tips to get hopefully an improved or modified sound. I bet under blind conditions 3 out of 100 people would notice a difference with comparable cables. You would have a better chance of noticing better sound simply by having a good nights sleep.

One disturbing fact is that volume levels aren't comparable. I have to lower by one step ln my glacier. That pretty much evens out the difference between the cables. On my phone it's impossible to compare really.

cn11 posts his Sony ZX-1/Fischer FA-4 pairing here, a good read for anybody contemplating this amazing player(like me).

Happy New Year!

By the way, HRT MicroStreamer is awesome with the FA-4. Its "speedy and energetic" sound signature works well with the slightly laid back (yet more energetic than UE 900) tuning of the Fischer Amps IEM. Very nice portable setup at work too. I´ll try to post some pictures later :)

Cool! Happy new year! Has anybody tried the Fiio E18 with the FA-4E?
