Fischer Amps FA-4 E XB: New 4-BA IEM From Germany - Page 69

I think by the weekend I'll send my FA-4 out to 1964 Ears. They sent an invoice today but they put down the wrong amount for shipping as it was international so I asked them for another one. The good news is that the FA-4 is the same nozzle size as my UM Mentor so I should have dual purposes for the custom tips.

I haven't spent much time with these in a week or so as I've been getting a bunch of other stuff in the mail but these are drastically different than everything else I have so it's nice to have something different once in a while.

Cool that you're getting custom tips for them. Look forward to how they change the sound quality. How does the FA-4E differ so drastically from everything else you have, out of curiousity?

It's just in sound signature. Everything else I have is much closer to neutral with deviations here and there from it.

Got it... By closer to neutral, are you mostly referring to the bass? To me everything else seems pretty darn neutral on the Fischers... Maybe it's because I haven't owned one of the customs which are considered dead neutral for comparison.

hey rawster what about the mentors? would you say principal difference is sound signature between the fa 4e?

It's everything really. The bass is part of it but so is the general tone of it.

I like it so far but still early. I've been having issues with the proper tips with the Mentor so the custom tips will probably be better suited for the Mentor than the FA-4. There is an obvious signature difference but little nuances are harder to tell right now as I've only had it for a few days and haven't done a direct comparison.

I share also cn11's opinion that the fa 4e are very neutral clear and detailed, only that + 6db of bass boost add some fun to their sound imo

I'm not really sure it's 6db in the bass that are added. It's pretty difficult to describe a neutral sound and to my mind if we say it's a clear sound it's not neutral, it's clear (obvious).

Neutrality is a synonym for realistic, IMO, and the FA4 are not so far from realism but it lack some touch of coherency, some touch of emphasis for the harmonics, etc...

If you look at a frequency response curve I think of neutral as flat.

Nothing could be neutral and a flat response curve is not flat in your ears. Look at the frequency curve of ER4 ( you probably already know) or SE5, both tell us that they're the neutrality. In fact Etymotic tuned their ER4 to be very accurate and transparent on mids, neutral is here impartial, and Spiral Ear done one of the best CIEM ever thanks to his sense of dynamic which is essential for neutrality, not the flatness.

Neutral and natural (or realistic) are still two different things. This is what I'm talking about: http://www.inearmatters.net/2008/12/neutral-vs-natural-thought.html

Anyway my custom tips are paid for and will ship off my FA-4 tomorrow probably. I'm guessing early Feb I'll have them.

ZX-1 ordered, it pairs very well with the Fischers I'm told. :gs1000smile:
