I'm reading down the list of topics on 'summit-fi' right now:

abyss planar magnetic headphones

sennheiser hd800

who has an end game setup?

lcd3/hd800 amp

fostex th900

stax thread

the 'new' hd800 thread

sennheiser hdvd800

audeze lcd3

king sound electrostatics

yada yada yada...

yup, that's all equipment.

No need to get nasty.

I wouldn't care if it were put in the Equipment subforums. But it's never been part of the equipment subforums. It's always been its own separate forum, originally located above the Equipment forum and recently moved below the Equipment forum. And in the context of it being a separate forum, I just think the natural place for it would be above the equipment forum.

But if you want to lobby to have it put in the Equipment subforums, you won't get any argument out of me.

The other forums that I think should move up, such as Meets (and Music and DIY, which haven't been done yet) is because I think they should get more focus than they are currently. Music especially.

I thought you said it was the new New Member forum that was intended to keep threads out of here that didn't belong. As long as New Member were above Summit-Fi, it should serve that function, shouldn't it?

Or what about what TMRaven said about it belonging in the Equipment subforums?

Responding to TM:

A lot of forums have something equivalent to the summit-fi forum.  Just like someone intent on summit-fi doesn't want to wade through all the new threads about the latest monoprice or Coby offering, people looking for something cheaper don't want to pass thread after thread about the 009 and HD800.  Segregation just makes sense for all concerned.  As to why summit-fi products don't become the standard "equipment" sections with a "Frugal" or "cheap" section (like on some other audio forums), both web traffic and dearth of products would say that summit-fi is the exception and not the rule.

my sentiment exactly!

Good move IMO. Educational and casual community forums, meets, even science forums are a good salad bar to the meat and potatoes. The dessert should be at the end of the meal. tongue.gif

You're acting like it would get directly assimilated into the other already existing subforums under the equipment section.  I'm saying keep it as its own subforum but group into the equipment section, unless you have objection to taking 1-2 seconds out of your time to look 2-3 extra subforums down the forum list to get to your precious summit-fi.

I'm all for what's being done here.  The 'new guy' subforum near the top to help reduce all the muck you don't want to wade through, and moving the music forum near the top too, because at the end of the day that's the core part of this hobby, and it's completely void of conversation compared to equipment on head-fi.

My sentiments towards the matter is that it shouldn't have been grouped outside of equipment section in the first place, because A: when it all comes down to it you guys are discussing equipment, and B: it reeks of elitism to me, and I giggle at the reactions to it being moved below the equipment section.

Seriously, a newbie has no idea what Summit-Fi means.  It's not clear as "High End Audio" or something like that.  You're better off keeping it at the bottom.

Huh? It isn't simply "Summit-Fi." The forum is titled "Summit-Fi (High-End Audio)" and the subforum is titled "High-end audio Forum."

My bad - I should have said what I meant - that newbies read the first words and it doesn't matter from there.  They will post anywhere ( I did it myself at the beginning ) so keeping it down low is a good idea.  I guess you guys are on to this - keeping it away from 'easy access' is the key.

agreed, please keep the summit-fi forum down low there, a newbie will not know what it means. high end audio also doesnt stop them from posting irrelevant topics there because they dont know what is high end audio. and seriously high end audio sounds more interesting to them than just equipment forum so they will ask their questions there anyway

The move was practical, not emotional. New members get a PM with a bunch of instructions and links, culminating in a link to the Help/advice (or whatever it ends up being named) forum to post their first thread. Many newbies, such as the ones that post their first thread in Summit-Fi, think that anything more expensive than $100 is "High-end Audio". I kid you not. They are often too lazy and/or too overwhelmed by the numerous forums to figure out where they should post, as well as being too lazy to read the welcome message, so they pick the first link that makes any sense, even if it does make sense if you use your brain. smile.gif
