Mad Dog Pro + 3.5mm Cable + Shipping to Australia + Credit Card Conversion Fees = ~$535 delivered.

OUCH! :(

There was the option to use cheap/slow USPS shipping (priority something something, think it was ~16-21 days estimate), brought it down to ~$460, but that option is gone now.

The fun of living in a country so far away from anywhere else.

Also, what cable connector does the MDP use? I've got several meters of Mogami cable and a switchcraft jack, figured I could make my own cable and save some money... just need the interconnect to the headphones.

^@Subatomic

I promise If I sell mine I will give you a discount and ship it to you. Just remind me. Thats only if you are interested at the time of course.

These will become available on the FS threads soon enough. just hold tight. That does suck though.

Haha, ah wells, won't hold my breath :p Shipping is a killer though. Seems like the sound signature i'm after, based on the few impressions ('fun' and bass, good for EDM), but yea.

If I can get back the cheap shipping option, and find out what interconnect is used it should ease the pain a bit :p

Anyone had a chance to compare the Mad Dog pro to the Paradox Slants yet?

I'm interested to see if the MD pro can push out the same amount of impact in the bass as the Slants.

what paradox slants? everybody is making new hp's! At that price I will easily pass.

I would literally have to:

- hear it in person next to the MD pro and ZMF

- Then decide between it or an he560.

I was able to hear it around Christmas time. Personally, I prefer it to my Mad Dog, and from memory, the Alpha Dog as well, mainly because as I mentioned above, it's able to provide some nice bass impact. I don't remember how much bass was there exactly, but it felt like it had the punch of the higher end open planars like the LCD-2 and HE-500. I'd have to listen to them side by side as well to reach any conclusion though.

I think the pro would be good for me because its the middle and I dont want less bass. The paradox slants sound very intriguing until I think of 700 smacks. Also since I am a timbre head and the paradox is said to best the AD there(both swapping positives and negatives) it would probably be ideal.

Maybe at a meet one day I can hear one or something. As far as clear mids, highs, timbres and bass the Pandora has me covered. I think its just hard to understand because I dont know what goes into making them. The AD just seems like its worth the price with all of the R&D and cups etc. Its still cheaper. I dont know.

In short I am eager to hear not buy.

Updated my impressions since I'm afraid they were a little misleading. Quantity wise, I still don't think they're basshead cans. They have a perfect amount of bass, a slant towards it even, and the improved clarity lets the bass stand proud, but quantity wise they are not what I would consider basshead levels. That being said, I still find the bass the most enjoyable aspect by virtue of how authoritative/powerful it can be while retaining clarity and presence throughout the rest of the spectrum.

I will say however, listening to Emptyset right now, they are demonstrating some niiice rumble.

Just FYI - in my side by side comparisons of the Alpha Dog and HE-500, I preferred the bass quality of the Alpha Dog.  Such things are dependent on which amp you use, and what music tracks you use for comparison.  (Note that most observers prefer the bass quality of the HE-400 over the HE-500.)

BTW, the Paradox guy has an even newer model the Enigma (not based on T50RP)...

$900 for a T50RP mod? Sheesh... That's a bit ridiculous.

Edit: nvm I see that it's not based on t50rp.

Anyone have any thoughts on the MDP/MDU interconnect? It looks like some variant of a 4 pin mini XLR jack, probably carrying L/R/G/G.

Or should I just cop it and buy the cable? $500 is a lot to swallow, will put me half way to buying a pair of HE560s :p

All this has been discussed before in the thread, and there are diagrams and details.

Perhaps do a "Search Thread" for "Universal"...
