FYI the Pro now has a 3.5mm cable option, as does the Alpha.

thanks for fast response Dan!  I checked out the site and I found it.  But it looks the pricing is switched, its got 60 crossed out and 120 not.  So it's coming up as 120 in the cart.

You missed our note about "early adopter special penalty price!"  :veryevil:

Thanks for pointing it out, it's now fixed.

Just dropped my Mad Dogs off at Fedex to be shipped to Dan today for the conversion so hopefully I get them back w/in the next 10 days or so.. I've been without them for all of 2 hours and I'm already missing them :-( Looks like the Meelectronics CW31's will have to hold me over until my Pro's return from Dan.

I assume you mean "purchase receipt for the upgrade" (as opposed to purchase receipt for the original Mad Dogs) ?

And I assume that everyone should hold onto their cable and carrying bag and just ship the headphones ?

I sent a copy of my upgrade and original purchase receipts and I (might have mistakenly) left the cable on them. I think the upgrade will require a different cable though so I'm not worrying about it too much. If it doesn't need a new cable I'm assuming it will come back with the cable.

The receipt to include is the upgrade receipt so we know who the phones are from and what to do.  A surprising number of people send phones to us without paperwork, sometimes without return address, then we have to guess what to do and figure out who they are from, which can take a lot of time.

Yes, keep your old cables and accessories.  The old cables won't work for the Pro, but the bag does, and the 3.5 to 3.5 is a handy cable to have around.  It'll be useful at some point...

Some initial sound impressions on the MDP's:

Having taken the step from the 3.0's directly to MDP's, the two biggest (and obvious) improvements are clarity and bass response.

There's a particular cloudiness due to resonances in the 3.0 that is completely gone, and it's been replaced by a more linear/balanced treble response which has been smoothened out--by smoothened I mean that whatever peaks in the 3.0's treble is gone. Paired with the new baffle, the tweaks done to the bass and treble makes the sound much cleaner and more coherent.

The main differentiator for the MDP's, for me, is the bass. It makes it a very fun phone to listen to. It isn't as punchy as a pair of TH-600's perhaps, but it's very clean and competent, with an addicting subbass rumble. Toms and double bass sound pretty darn convincing and very authoritative, and overall the improved low-end makes for quite an enveloping--I almost want to say atmospheric--listen.

As Dan has mentioned, no, they aren't anywhere as linear/transparent as the Alpha Dogs, but they aren't meant to be. They're unabashedly fun headphones with a slightly boosted but clean low-end, warm midrange and neutral-dark treble, but still retain MrSpeakers' signature "clean" sound. The spectrum on a whole sounds cohesive, with added note weight and low-end texture that makes it a convincing "fun"/audiophile hybrid headphone.

IMO

EDIT:

I should clarify:

I don't think these are basshead cans. Rather, the sound slants slightly towards the lower end, where the bass is emphasized by virtue of how 'linear' and extended it is. Whereas in 'traditional' bass-boosted cans a certain part of the frequency is audibly bumped up and obscures the rest of its neighbors, the MDP lets you hear the entire spectrum in all its glory, and it sounds meatier as a result.

Except for the Universal-to-Pro upgrade, where the old cable will work, but we should hold onto the cable, just so they don't get lost, correct ?

Would be interesting to hear some more thoughts on the MD3.2 vs MDP particuarly in terms of bass. I'm in Australia so sending my MD3.2s to Dan as well as paying for the upgrade cost and return international postage is.. very expensive. Need to determine if it is worth it!

I can give more input on that when my MDP arrives, hopefully some time next week.  (The MD3.2 part of the comparison will have to be from memory, although I will compare it directly to the Alpha Dog).

@Dan: can we expect the MDP for sale at the coming SoCal meet (with the current discount)?

The comparison with the MD 3.0 picked up my interest!

The MDP has more weight and slam than the 3.2 and it's easily noticeable. If you have the 3.2 and wish you had more bass, then the Pro will do it.
