Actually for me, the darkness wasnt really a issue. I tend to lean much more towards dark sounding gear.

When I had The National  on high gain setting I could hear it straining once I got to a 4 on the dial. It ran out of clean power and gave a ton of distortion at that point. The RxMKIII-B+ doesnt do anything close to that.

I haven't tried The National but I can totally attest that the RxMKIII-B+ has more than enough power for the MD.  I keep mine on Medium gain and thats perfect for me.

Just out of curiosity are you using single ended or balanced MD ?

I'm using the balanced MD with the ALO/RSA cable to the RxMKIII b+. Thing is from my CLAS -db to the Rx I'm using a singled ended mini cable instead of the balanced to balanced. It sounds great so far but I'm in the fence whether or not to make a balanced cable for that or just buy one from ALO audio. This combination has me picking up my MDs more than my HD650s. biggrin.gif

It was stellar. Have since moved on to compact desktop amps and compact desktop amps even in the same price range still get bested going from notes I took on the aha. The aha and lcd-2 were a force to be reckoned with imo. Did you ever have the chance to listen to a lcd-2 on your aha?

What would be a good amp for the MDs + laptop? I don't care if it's SS or tube. My 3.2s will be here soon and I want to have a good setup for them. I've already got an E17, so I was thinking of getting the E09K (which would be cheap), but I don't know if that would do them justice. Thoughts?

Depends on your budget

I'm using the E17/E9k combo with my MD 3.2s - sounds excellent! Setting E9k to high gain w E17 at 26-30 volume provides good slam/bass.

I think this is a great value for money setup.

Thanks. I prefer at least 70mm vertical but if it is really that supple, it might suffice. Cheers

Have you used it with other amps to compare? Just curious.
