But I don't mind, I mean, we do have to wait till September/October for the headphones anyway! ;-)

I'm a weirdo like that!

But I trust Dan, his work and business ethics and community support, so really there isn't much to hesitate about.

Thought about just updating the current MDs but, naaaah, I want to have both!!!

Yeah basically the video is Jude totally geeking out about the headphone. He loves it, and says it's the best closed back under a $1000 bar-non. He talks about how the 3D printed allows for the ideal cup and there is a lattice structure within the cup to help with the dampening to make sound truly open. He also mentions the screw which can be turned for more or less bass or to be reset to factory setting amount of bass. He says the bass is exactly where he likes it in the factory setting so he has no urge to touch it.

He says it's faster, cleaner and doesn't even sound like it's using the same fostex driver of the Mad Dogs because it's such a huge improvement.

That's the gist of it, but it's hard to duplicate the 12 minutes of total video love letter Jude made for Dan. I think they'll go out soon. evil_smiley.gif

Boo, just when I was happy with what I have....

Alrighty guys, sorry to semi-derail the thread, or to ask a question already asked, but Im considering getting the Mad Dog, and I was wondering if my FiiO E7 has enough juice to power them, or if I should upgrade to the LittleDot I+??

Thanks y'all!

Well, you certainly won't hear the best that they can do with the e7. I'd upgrade for sure.

I tried the E07k with the MDs and it did a pretty good job powering them. Just don't expect ear bleeding loudness.

Also @dan, would you consider making a 3.5mm terminated cable for the alpha dogs? One of the things I like about my MDs is that I can plug them into my netbook's integrated sound card without any adapters for when I don't feel like dragging my amp to bed with me to play games...

Hi,

We have to manage cable inventory and the production complexities so I will monitor interest in a no-adaptor 3.5.

OK thanks! I'm looking to get them to add to my RS1/80i, and Id use them both in my portable rig  with my E7 and at home. I'm not looking to get tons of volume, just good quality sound at a listenable volume. I will upgrade to the LD later on, but for now I thought I'd take the plunge on some Dogs L3000.gif

No problem! The MDs will definitely be quite a change from any Grado headphones.

Like you avatar too by the way :)

Posted a few words in the official thread - http://www.head-fi.org/t/676095/mrspeakers-alpha-dog-revealed-the-worlds-first-production-3d-printed-headphones/165#post_9693474

Hope that helps! Looking forward to more impressions from more people. Already pre-ordered. Might have to also trade-in my MD's for another set for the pops..

Maybe its just me, or my monitor, but when i look at those press shots I see a lot of orange peeling in the paint. Maybe someone whose seen them in person can confirm whether this is the case. Also I'm a bit disappointed with the shape of the earcups. I wish there was a bit of sculpting on the outside. So it looks designed, not just engineered. 3d printing gives you ultimate control of the shape. And not using that freedom to create a stunning piece of industrial design is a bit of a missed opportunity.
Now that I'm done being a downer I am super excited to add these to my collection alongside the mad dogs.

There is orange peeling on these, they were from our first production test and was done just in time for a photo shoot.  Sharp eyes!  The final finish is much more uniform and that is definitely a part of our QA process.

There are many factors that determine what shapes will work well.  We are function-first, and the form follows the function.
