Time to replace my ultimate ears superfi 5 pro?

I have an old pair of original ultimate ears superfi 5 pro's that I use for travel mostly.

I just heard my buddy's Westone 4's and really liked them.

I am sort of a Grado fan I guess, my ears are aging a bit, and I do like a tad more HF energy.

Not sure I want to go $500 on new travel phones, Maybe $300 or so.

any ideas are helpful, Thx

$300 you say hmm tricky, what do you listen to, and what sort of sound signature do you prefer, warm/bassy, sparkly or balanced.

The super fi's were good at their time, i still have a pair. But nowadays a lot out there give them a fair beating, especially the dynamics they've really come a long way.

Also do you use a portable amp, again that can influence things.

Earsonic SM3 are well regarded, and similar to the westone, their UM3X being a good choice as well.

Thanks for that, I listen to a lot of World, Classical, Jazz etc. I prefer a bit more energy in the highs myself, i like bass, but must be tight - not bloated at all. yeah, the Westone 4's were quite a bit better to my ears, I forgot how much i love listening to music.

When I put the Westone's on, i cued up Waldemar Bastos and Renaud Garcia-Fons.

At home I use an Audio-GD DAC/Amp, travel usually an Sansa Clip. Will want to upgrade my DAP soon also.

hard because you can not hear these, just have to go on reviews.

Thanks

Hmm tricky, it'll be a toss up betweein the Earsonic SM3, Westone 4's and Shure SE535.

The Earsonics work best with an amp, it'll be fine with the clip, but perhaps a rocoo player might be better as those iem's seem to be the most favoured on here.

I can't speak from experience, your best bet is to look at reviews on here, and go with what you like the sound of it'll be very close between those three.

Anything new I would want to look at? leaving on a trip Sept 6th, wanted to try the iBasso DX50, looks tough to get by then.

Westone 4's are excellent, a friend has those. still prefer the sparkly treble. love my Grado RS1's.
