Got an offered for a 2nd hand HD 598 at about $160, wondering if it is a good price for them. Like whats the usual market offering for a 2nd hand 598?

Thanks

PS: If it is a good offer I might just buy it so that I can try its sound sig and keep it if I like it.

Sennheiser recently clamped down on vendors selling new HD 598s below MSRP, so $200 new would be a lucky price to get now, but most people are having to pay more. Consequently, if then are in excellent condition, $160 seems pretty reasonable to me.

I live in Thailand where there are only 2 vendors. One sell them at $300, the other sell them at $285. I guessing if I am able to get a discount it would be around $5 to $15 max. Would this make the $160 even a better buy you think?

I am only going to buy it if it is a really good deal because I am weighting between three options of hd600/650, audio technica ad900x (where i can buy from amazon third party Japan and ship it to Thailand total cost around $220 I believe) and this hd598. As I already own a he-400, and feel that it is uncomfortable for long listening period so I am looking to find another complementary pair to switch between the he-400. Of the three, what do you think would fit my bill as I would want something that excels in female vocals and decent mids.

If you want something for female vocals with decent mids, have you looked into the AKG Q701? Nice big soundstage on them with smooth mids and emphasis on the highs.

Yes but all of the AKG Q/K 701 models are double the price here in Thailand. Since my brother who is studying in USA comes back only once a year; I will have to wait a year before I can obtain it. Would you say that this Q701 would worth the wait?

I haven't heard them all, but that's a loaded question. LOL smily_headphones1.gif

You might take a look at the battle of the flagship's reviews which cover some of the headphones you mentioned: http://www.head-fi.org/t/634201/battle-of-the-flagships-57-headphones-compared-update-ultimate-ears-uerm-added-4-14-13

Then also see Innerfidelity's wall of fame posts for more info on some top headphones: http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/innerfidelitys-wall-fame (scroll down to the links).

BTW while doing some research on the HD 598, some seems to love it so much, one person even go as far as saying it is like a cow tongue and not a froe gais confused_face(1).gif. Anyways other seems to say they are quite mid level headphones, meaning you get what you pay for and nothing is that special.

Anyway back to the original question, are the HD598 a good bargain at $160? Have to decide soon, Thanks!
