I find the IE800 too bassy, but did not try them with AK120. So far in terms of pairing:

SE5=1plus2>Kaede>Miracles.

EDIT : Actually, I am giving the Miracles more time, and it is better than I initially thought.

So more like SE5=1plus2>Kaede=Miracles.

Well if the AK120 is light on bass and lower mids, perhaps the "biases" in each compliment one another for a little system "synergy"

Don't want to go through another custom IEM process as I did with JH Audio, that was a pain and very slow, so will probably try to pick another regular IEM.  I just ordered the Senn's for sat delivery so will try them out this weekend and see what happens.  Hopefully can get to a good outcome here!  Thanks for the suggestions

Seeing your posts like reading my own thoughts to the point it's getting scary - hated JH, travel light, want some bass to go with hifi type sound...

I went back to demo the new JH (13pro and 16pro) after receiving my AK120 and still didn't like either. you should try fitear 334 as it pairs quite well with AK120 with a silver cable. Articulated fast bass with good solid quantity while not bleeding into other frequencies. The silver cable also help extend its treble.

I got the AK120 for mainly my business trips and mobile use but ironically I think it will be the 901 I'll be taking for my first trip since getting either.

Interesting discussion now.  I was literally just thinking tonight, as i used the AK120 with my ES10, how it fixed these headphones.  I had always found the bass obnoxious on the 10's but with the AK120 it was tamed and controlled and the mids were strong and higher end sparkled and sizzled with detail and pizzaz.wink.gif  The 120 paired with the ED8 on the other hand sound, underdriven basically.  Still good but the Pico Power makes a big improvement and sounds so much more authoritative.  I am thinking that the bassier headphones may have an advantage is all due to the presentation.  I am using the 1.0 too.

To continue, the day before i ordered these, my cable on the JH13 shorted.  I used it for three years.  Waiting on a new cable now from Plussound and i am a little worried about the comments and my own observation.  The JH13 pairs sooo well with the HM801 which is very very warm.  Maybe fixes the warm with a stark presentation from the earphone.  The HM801 does not match well with the ES10, warm dap with bassy headphone presentation.  Just some observations of matching.  Glad i haven't sold my HM801 yet, may be handy with the JH13 if the AK120 stays with the ES10.  Then the ED8 goes to the ipod/CLAS/Pico Power.  Mix and Match to get the best of all i guess.  Curious to see the sound of the 13's when the cable comes now though.

It is funny, because for me the AK120 is certainly NOT bass light. In any pairing.

Yup AK120 is far from bass light. Quantity is just right and I'm a minor bass head I think. However the AK120 does lack some power/authority delivery bass notes compared to better amps or 901 balanced amp.

It has more authority than AK100 clearly, and honestly from memory, with iems, not much of a difference with DX100. DX100 has more power, but not needed with iems...

Agreed. I like AK120 over dx100 for sure. And stock AK100 is even worse.

But you like 901 best of all :)

Only sound-wise, and only with balanced amp board+balanced iem. Just received and listening to these now. Love it:

I would still say AK120 score higher overall for me. It is just an exceptionally well made DAP balancing all major buying attributes (maybe except price).... The stock case not notwithstanding!

Don't get me wrong.  It may be my favorite piece of audio gear i have ever bought.  Pairing is just important.  For instance, my Fostex HP-P1 with the JH13 i find a bit lacking compared to either the 801 or the CLAS/amp.  It is good with other phones though.  Hopefully the AR120 will be to my liking with the 13.  I am getting copper cable, not silver coated because i think that it a better match with the 13s, so that will help a bit anyway.

Yes the RE-600.  Haven't done any comparison yet but liked it enough to have listened to it non-stop for 4 hrs now.  Killing my 901 battery in the process, and now continuing with it on the AK120....  ksc75smile.gif

Makes a lot of sense especially for those who have the 901+balanced card... or you have TRRS balanced amp. very_evil_smiley.gif  Easily the dynamic driver based IEM I liked best even with SE on AK120.  Very comfortable to wear and to listen to.  Strangely while I like wearing the RE400 over the ear, I find I like RE600 worn down.
