The two I bought directly from Amazon.jp (no marketplace seller) sound the same. I have one more from amazon but haven't opened it yet.

Impossible to tell, but IEMs are most definitely subject to variation. This happens to everyone, even the big boys in the biz. I got my pair off of ebay (The seller's last name was even Tenore, what are the odds?) and it sounds incredible. A top level performer for a pittance. Only issue I have with the Tenore is it can sound dynamically compressed next to the FX850/K3K/DITA. But for the price, this can hardly be called a knock against it

I have two more on the way from Amazon and Ebay, both from different sellers from the previous three that gave me issues.

So to reiterate: I've gotten three pairs of Tenores so far, two of which were bassy, and one of which was reference but developed channel imbalance. One of the bassy pairs actually also developed channel imbalance.

But other users haven't had any issues after (I'm assuming) quite extended use. So I just unluckily got three bad ones in a row. Makes me wonder if maybe these were discontinued for a reason, like high return rates or something. Maybe those returns are being sold by some of the these retailers as new product. Who knows. It's just very odd to get three straight lemons from three different sources.

And just throwing it out there I'm using a Leckerton UHA760 and Nexus 5, nothing crazy like a 500 jigawatt tube amp lol.

Lol! If these next two also get ripped apart by these mysterious dark forces, then I'm afraid I'm going to have to give up on the Tenore for good. It's probably the best earphone I've ever heard, but I'm not buying more than 5 pairs.

Gnarlsagan (and possibly ebrian) are the first to report defective Tenores.  Since the hype is so strong, it appears that most of us received good ones.  It's just strange that Gnarlsagan has issues with all 3 of his!  I hope the two he's just ordered are good ones.

I think the best place to buy them might be kakuku.com using buysmartjapan as a fowarding service 😅

I bought mine from whiterabbit straight from Japan. Maybe those ebay or amazon sellers are getting them from grey sources?

I hope not. I got mine here:

Looks pretty authentic, and the seller has good feedback. But I guess we'll find out in a few weeks!

Bought mine from woodlandhills_cass on eBay, hope I don't get a dodgy pair, don't want to have to deal with returns.

I bought mine used from a head-fi member, who said he said he got them from "E-Earphone" in Tokyo.

Why would they fake not really successful selling IEMs ? More than likely that its just a QC issue. That being said, I honestly never went for a headfi hyped product, but this time ... , you guys got me. Right after  I made the payment the negative impressions popped up in this thread. ;(

I bought mine from yasurikou on ebay, he sells them every now and then for 45$ + shipping

Yeah guys it could just be bad luck for me. We'll find out by next week hopefully. The good thing is that the sound on a good pair is in the top 3 of all IEMs I've ever heard, and many people share this sentiment. This is why to me it's worth the risk to keeping buying Tenores.

@Samehada

I also just paid mine from the same seller when the negative reports started. Let's just hope the we're lucky.
