I think my setup is done for 2/3 (009 - 600ltd). If I'll ever change something will be the DAC. But I'm so happy with the sound I'm afraid of doing it!
The 009 is simply addictive: I'm listening to a lot more music now and I feel more involved. Don't know why people say they are bright, definitely not the case here, and actually they are smoother than my old 007. Bad recordings are also more enjoyable through the 009, and that's why I'm discovering a lot of music

I'd like to listen to 727 or 007t and see if they are a worth upgrade over the amp I've got, but I think I'll never get a non STAX amp: they are too expensive and not officialy imported here in UK.

I'm hoping my rig is fairly stable for a few years. I was doing good until a few months ago but got a good dynamic and Stax setup. I have a Buffalo III, Mjolnir and HD800 and my other rig is my Anedio D1 dac, SRM717 and SR007.

The BHSE, KGSSHV and such amps are too big for the available space I have in my rack.

I thought I did..............then I bought this.  Now I am there.  Clearly. Shows my D2000 w/Lawton mods, also traded my Sig Pro's for D7000's and they are getting the full Lawton mod treatment so think I'm set.

For those interested, that's a Pioneer rack system based on their Spec1 preamp, Spec 2 amp (250 wpc), Equalizer, TX9500 II tuner, fed by either the Yamaha turntable up top, the iPod touch next to it, tuner or tape deck.  Amazing setup.  Sounds as good as it looks.

lol you're far from having an end game system trust me. You are going to be still buying and buying.

An impressively large chunk of endgame. How long have you had it? Is the d7000 your endgame headphone?

A week. After the Lawton mods are done I will re evaluate. Doubtful in reality. I am auditioning the TH600 in a few weeks, that may help to see if there is any difference vs the D7K. Highly doubt I'd go for a TH900 at that price.

Takeanidea,

I've hit a 35+ years high for sound quality. My current system reproduces my records in a manner excelling everything that I have ever heard(haven't heard it all) but only after I properly isolated my Yamaha GT 2000 turntable.

My headphone rig consisted of LCD 2.2s used with the Violectric HPA V200. The system in the signature below retired the LCD/Violectric combination. It also sounds so good at the moment that despite having the available funds to spend on the system, I'm more interested in relistening to my records in order to get my head around how they sound when higher resolution playback is on the table.

I'm not going to upgrade anything yet(that magical word) because I want to hear my records via this higher res system in the here and now.

It was really the KRKs which were the nail in the coffin lid for the headphone combination. The KRKs improved on the headphone combo in resolution, soundstage, imaging, tone, dynamics(micro and macro). There wasn't anything except for neighbour friendliness where the headphone combo even approaches the system or exceeds the system sans headphone combo. The Hornshoppe 'The Truth' preamp extended my impression of the KRKs and the further adventures in isolating the turntable has nudged the system into another rarified realm of resolution.

More than impressed with the system. I'm being given an education in possibilities of vinyl reproduction.

Theophile,
Thanks for sharing that with us. We're getting a few converts to a speaker system as the final answer. I have heard some amazing speaker based vinyl systems through the years. I haven't changed my speakers in years. One of the woofers was pushed in by one of my kids and has been likw it ever since. They're now 16 and 18...
They're not endgame though because I prefer the secret indulgence of a headphone so I can play my eclectic collection in relative peace ( except wgen I have my sigmas on)

Hello fellow Queenslander!  Thats a seriously nice setup you have there. I am very jealous - especially of the Expose KRK's. I recently went down the active monitor route and bought some KH120 Neumann's which are excellent for there size. I would love a reasonably priced high end balanced tube preamp to drive them as opposed to the preamp in my DAC. Give it that touch of magic. The Littledot mk6+ does it beautifully with the headphones but it's preamp is average.

That hornshoppe preamp looks interesting....
