worst date stories

Usually it is the girl's father who has the money and not her. If she has been spoiled her whole life, she will expect you to pay for the first class lifestyle she is used to. No matter how much money some women have, they still expect you to pay for everything. A pediatrician I dated said that her money is for her security, and that the man should pay for everything. Quite often they expect you to pay for everything in a first class manner, especially if they are used to it. I resent having to treat a woman better than I treat myself. I have no patience for women who expect me to support them. Their typical phrase would be "I want to be treated like a lady". My response is "I want to be treated like an equal".

keepin it classy

Mothers have money too

I don't remember if I told this one, but I once had a a date go belly up not because of the date itself, but because a friend of mine with a severe drinking problem had locked himself in my bathroom* and was crying for somebody to kill him. Bad situation, awkward way to end the date, weirdness all around.

*he had gotten kicked out of his apartment and I took the risk of giving him a place to stay until he got back on his feet... big mistake, but I didn't know how bad his drinking was until then

Last year I went out on a date with a woman who turned out to be a tumblr-feminist. For those who don't know the reference, it's basically the kind of person who gives real feminists a bad name. Add on top she was also genderfluid non-binary orientation special snowflake anti-vaxxing unicorn yadda yadda.

Things started off well enough, no immediate spark but perfectly amicable conversation. About a half hour in I'm getting a whiff of the tumblr-ness and think to myself heck with it, the date wasn't going *that* well, I want to have this fight. The next hour is surprisingly civil, but I am absolutely destroying every single argument she makes. She cites rhetoric, and I'm laying down cold hard facts and examples.

Yeah I know I came off as sanctimonious. Don't care. Fought tumblr and (in spirit) won.

I'm very sad to see this kind of thinking become more popular. I'm very much an advocate for equality, and the infamous people of tumblr have really made me sad. Many of them are not open to debate and therefore, it's hard to understand their positions and impossible for them to understand yours.

That reference was totally lost on me. So she was a poser feminist, an uber feminist, she bent both ways feminist? Please clarify. In any case I get that it was the antithesis of a good time.....

Most of the "bad" tumblr-feminists are the type who only see the issues superficially and cry for immediate change to perceived social injustices, but don't understand the deeper implications and don't understand that immediate change is not only impossible but also damaging.

Tumblr is a place where people with offshoot ideas can come together, but without moderation this basically turns into everyone patting each other on the back and supporting ideas that would normally phase out naturally. Tumblr is not the only online place that creates this, but it is certainly one of the largest and most prolific. Some of the worst examples of this are pro-anorexia and fat-acceptance movements. They take the "everyone is beautiful" idea but it warps into something dangerous and unhealthy.

Head-fi is known for being a hype train at times. People will buy gear and reassure each other that the purchase they made was good, then encourage it even more. There are many people who do this pushing who have no experience whatsoever with the product on hand. So the grand circle*ahem* continues, and without moderation that can be dangerous.

So now take that and expand into politics, religion, gender issues, racial issues, etc etc. Take one radical view with just a smidgen of truth, hype hype hype, generate mob mentality, voila you have tumblr the internet.

Thanks for the explanation. I have no experience with Tumblr, but after reading your first paragraph, I immeditely thought the same thing that you wrote in the last paragraph.

Couldn't think of anywhere else to put this. The part at 5:45 hits home especially hard for me, for those who remember my stories in here.
