If the drama and hype from the old G1 threads resurfaces, then I wouldn't be posting here.

I would say that it is the most hyped IEM in this price range right now.
Or maybe not even the most hyped, but the most discussed.

Likewise.

Well to be fair, this thread is so massive because half of it is playful banter. That's why I'm going to catalog all the impressions I can find in the first post, similar to how the sparrow did with his K3003 thread.

I've switch tips and sources and the sound of these are more to my liking now. It seems like I like the sound with the silicone tips better but I like the isolation of the comply better. My work desktop sounded the worst, which was what I was using yesterday. It sounded better on my iphone and macbook pro. Going to try some of the tips suggested in the thread and see how it goes. I went from I think I'm going to sell these and get the heir 5.0 or something else to this may be the perfect sound if I can get the little bits and pieces worked out.

After looking through this thread again, going to grab some auvio tips form radioshack and if those aren't perfect, ortofon next :P These are the first pair of iems that I've heard such a drastic difference from different tips being used. Maybe it's just me =\

I don't they're the most hyped.. regardless of price range qualifications.

..are people enthusiastic about it?  Absolutely.. and quite deservedly so.. but gosh, people seem to love to throw the word 'hype' around HF (some of it deservedly so.. and some of it not).  The difference between hype and enthusiasm, to me, is there's reasoning and tempered excitement behind products that garner enthusiasm.  Hyped products typically ascend popularity quickly due to clever marketing, initial (and somewhat prolonged) buzz, and emotionally vested opinions that might overlook some technical weaknesses.  I don't get that with the AS/G-2 discussions so far.

The AS/G-2 has been in the hands of seasoned listeners and newcomers alike for some time now.. there's been mutual respect and admiration from both camps for it.  Few, if any, people have got it and heard something drastically different from what they may have read about it before hand.  IMO, it hasn't been praised for things it isn't capable of.  The consensus that's formed around the phone's performance is quite accurate, IMO.  It's not the most resolving or linear phone out there.. nor is it wildly colored or 'fun'.. but what it lacks, IMO, is a glaring weakness when judged against phones at its price point.. and that, in itself, is mighty impressive.

You and me both mate. Is there anybody not interested in this mod that has tried the ASG 2's? Seems everyone is interested.

A few officially hyped IEMs: SM3, ASG-1, SM3, EPH-100, SM3, FXZ200, SM3. Oh, almost forgot, the SM3 was a bit hyped, too.

My sound signature preference was the sony 7550.    After I got my AS2 updated to sound like the AS2's everyone else was hearing, I found it to be 2x perhaps 3x improvement over the sony.   The AS2 has a very similar signature as the 7550, yet with much more and better bass and better imaging.      After listening to the 1P2 demo, I found its signature much more analytical than the 7550/AS2 signature, and defiantely 3x as good as my 7550 standard.

but if someone is really serious about testing polyphonic and bass resolution then there is no better test than J.S.Bach Tocatta and similar works. There is no greater polyphony than big concert organ and there is no more complicated torture test for gear ability to produce proper bass. i confess i still have not heard a high-end which would be able to fall as deep in bass.... and so so gear will immediately show limitations.

so welcome to master works of a genius and a torture test for your gear:

been listening with the auvio tips and I might have to go get more tips. It sounds much better to me than the comply and the tips it came with, but the isolation is worse than the bi flange and the comply.

That is an ASG-2 in black rhodium or chrome finish. You can see the black tuneable bass knob under the "S" logo

This is the ASG-2. I prefer universals over customs for fit/comfort/usability. Had poor experiences with customs and I have gone universals exclusive ever since. Also the fact I never had fit issues or need to tip roll for a good seal. 9 out of 10 times the default medium silicon tip works perfectly for me.
