[REVIEW] Aurisonics ASG-2 & 2.5 (with many comparisons)

Seeing as they're rated at 34 ohms what would you say the ideal output impedance should be?

I have a few questions, that hopefully someone can help me out with. I just picked up some ASG2.2s from a member on here. I have been using Triple Fi 10s.

Source = Samsung Galaxy Note Edge using Spotify.
Tips - Stock single large

1. It seems like the treble, high midrange is being drowned out by some of the bass. I have the bass port I believe closed. Theirs 3 little lines and a dot, and I have it to the 1st line. Is this right. I am use to the singer being right in front of me.

2. It seems that I am having to crank up the volume on my phone to get the singer to be alot more present but than the low bass is too much.

3. Would an external dap help?
    a. If so, any recommendation on some good ones that will not blow the bank, under 300 dollar range

4. Would an external amp help?
    a. If so, any recommendation on some good ones that will not blow the bank, under 300 dollar range

5. Would a different cable help bring more attention to the upper mids, treble.
    a. If so, any recommendation on some good ones that will not blow the bank, under 300 dollar range

6. I have seen people recommend using the ortophon clear tips as amazon only sells black ones, where is a good place to order these or do you recommend other tips, and I am in nashville, tn.

7. Has anyone used an eq on these, and if it helped, what settings did you use to get the most out of them.

8. I thought about calling Aurisonics and asking them how much it would cost to upgrade them to the 2.5s, would it be worth it.

9. Anything else that would help bring the most out of them. I do love the lowers mids and sub bass, and they are detailed, I just would like more of the upper midrange, treble come out more like my triple fi 10s do.

With my 2.5s I have found the upper mids and treble seem very sensitive to impedance. Plugged into some of my amps it's almost like they don't exist where as with other amps they are much more prominent. From my galaxy s5 I don't find vocals to be withdrawn at all but the top end seems a little subdued at times. The 2s have a stronger bass response on the minimum setting so it could be drowning things out a bit. With the 2.5s I don't find the bass to drown anything out on the minimum setting i just think there's a recess somewhere around 6k or so. I have found that for my ears using a bi-flange tip seems to help bring a bit more of the top end out, I use some tips I got with a cheap pair of meelectronic iems.
From what I remember reading this iem is designed to be this way so there might be nothing that can be done to completely solve the issue.

sounds like you should upgrade it to the ASG-1Plus instead. It's more neutral and does have lesser bass presence.

Well, it looks like the bass port was still open some, so i have closed it, and it has tamed down the lower bass. I like the lower, just wish the upper mid and treble were a little more present, clearer. Thats why I was thinking maybe tips, dac or amp would help with that, or even having asg upgrade the internals to the 2.5s. As the top end just seems a little muffled.

Ok so I finally got my Asg-2 back today after sending them in to Aurisonics to switch the drivers to the 2.5 ones and I just wanted to ask a question. So because of the different drivers my htc can no longer properly drive them so I was wondering what the best dap would be to pair with the asg for 300$? Also I cant buy the x5 because its 450$ where I live.

I'd look into a used Dx90 maybe?

Hi, I think yours is a case of not properly reading/researching about the sound signature enough before buying. UE Tf10 is V shaped from what I know, whilst ASG2 is not. Also, clear or black ortofon tips does not matter; it is just a color. I would either: try to listen awhile longer and see if you like the signature after getting used to it, upgrade like suggested to 1+, or resell them. A cable will not do wonders to the ASG and a dap will change the sound slightly.

+1

When I first received my ASG 2.5, I was not happy with the sound at all.  But after closing the bass port and letting the IEM burn in (I still can't believe there is such a thing), I am actually loving the sound.  I know it's not G2.2 but I think you may want to give it some time for the IEM and your ears to adjust.

Thanks. I will definately upgradede the tips,

What about an amp for these or a source that has an excellent dap, and plenty of power for these iems. As Im sure my Note Edge isnt doing any justice including using Spotify.

I will also look at possibly upgrading these.

Try turning the bass port dial completey the opposite direction. I'm feeling they might be fully open. (which you think is closed)

Or, let's simplify it, have you tried with the dials completey turned each way?

I can get my ASG-2 down to pretty calm bass levels with the ports fully closed. (which isn't what you describe at all).

I will also look at possibly upgrading these.

I have been using JDS Labs C5D and more recently Sony PHA-2 and both are excellent in there own way.  C5D is a bit darker than the PHA-2 which makes it a good combo with the ASG 2.5. And my DAP is the Fiio X3.

Thanks everyone. I went by Aurisonics today as I am from the Nashville area. I am going to upgrade to the 2.5s, as I really liked the sound.

Now to just decide on source that is under 500 dollars. I have looked at the X5, and DX90 comments, are they anymore that anyone would recommend with these paticular iems. And since I will now be using the 2.5s, and from what I heard today, I had to turn them up more on my note edge. so will I need an amp with addition to the source like x5 or dx90, etc. Or am I better off just using my note edge and getting a dap and amp. As I havnt found a high end portable source that will allow me to use a service like spotify or equivalent in addition to being a music player.
