[REVIEW] Aurisonics ASG-2 & 2.5 (with many comparisons) - Page 190

Sorry, but I cannot take Rin Choi's graphs seriously anymore after hearing ASG-2 then comparing to his analysis, I was never a fond believer in graphs telling the whole story but this has really sealed the deal. I think this is a pure example of our ears telling the true story, these earphones sound very appealing in my opinion, especially since I adjusted the bass dropping it back just under one notch this morning. I tried the ports fully closed, it was almost too neutral or sounded like I wasn't getting a seal, so the bass port certainly works well on this pair. To be honest I think I prefer them open just below the first click because ASG-2's bass is what forms a big part of their presentation, gives them thump and recreates that sensation of a live concert, it's what gets my head bobbing to the music, also works well for EDM, hell it works well for everything, what am I talking about. rolleyes.gif

Dale, you've done an excellent job mate, lots of love for ASG-2 here in Australia!

To be fair to Rin, Unity's pair was most definitely defective. Even if the bass roll-off on the graph was true, which it isn't, the bass mismatch alone would create the slow muddy bass he was hearing. The treble also looked funky.

I trust Rin's methods, as his graphs tend to match the tonality of the iem I'm listening to. What happened was the result of Unity shooting off at the hip with a 50 cal machine gun, without ever questioning for a second whether this was faulty, given the generally positive impressions rolling in.

Of course, Rin's obnoxious commentary didn't help, but he isn't completely to blame.

Sorry, but I can not take your posts seriously anymore when the G-2 has got the fidelity of a baby monitor rolleyes.gif

See, I haven't followed the thread daily, I would pop in now and then but I haven't been here since day one, so please excuse anything I have missed.Unitys unit must of been faulty, there's no two ways about it imo and even if it wasn't I like the sound. In posting what I did I really don't want to bring up the whole topic again and cause any problems for your thread but unless I see another pair measured or Unity's pair proven to be faulty, I will not follow or support Rin Choi any longer.

No worries. That was basically all our reactions when the analysis was published. it was like 20 pages of "Nuh-uuuhh, dem graphz don't look right ta me!"

Then Inks popped in (listening to the same faulty pair), and concurred with Rin's graphs, which sparked another few pages, and some joyous celebration from some folks in the SD3 camp.

I read Rin's blog for the graphs. The assessments are usually objective, except for the times he feels the need to put down a certain manufacturer (aurisonics, ocharaku, etc.). He contributes to the community with his graphs and mod recommendations. I have to give him kudos for that.

This thread proves preference plays a key role at the end of the day and I get it now why objective approach to reviews will never always be the definitive end, it will give us an idea but end of the day it comes down to what you ear hears and likes.

I am certainly going to give the C3 a go, I was enjoying the asg-2 with rocoo BA and I find that it corrected  the bass to my liking but it died, time to replace it with C3.

H20 you better buy his ASG2s before he changes his mind! lol :).

hehe well i do enormously enjoy it with chamber music and solo cello and that is what I used it for but I certainly do no enjoy it as much as H20 does. Right now my portable reference is Ak120 and Ck100pro and compared to that ASG-2 just struggled.

Of course you can lend my C3 and try, as you know I have the Rocco BA, however prefer C3.

Just my 2c, you liking the ASG-2's sound isn't necessarily a contradiction to Rin's graph. I can easily imagine people liking the ASG-2's warm(ish) mid-centric and non-fatiguing sound signature. But as far as Eke's loaner pair is concerned, I'd still say Rin's graph coincides pretty well with my listening impressions, except for the bass range below 100Hz, where I think the roll-off is less severe on Eke's pair than on the one Rin measured.

I will place my order next week as my BA sadly died and I am looking for a replacement. So ofcourse the question is: Can you do more an in depth comparasion with the 1Plus2 whenever you have the chance please?

Ooops is it the same story with Heir 4Ai and Earsonics Sm64? Is it like Rin did some measurements on the faulty pair, released the graphs and then put down the manufactures? I am getting bored on this story. I am waiting for my ASG2 which will hopefully be delivered within this month. The only thing I can trust now is my ears.

/Derail

He always asked the manufactured to a)send their own pair to him for measurement and/or b)release their own data. I am not sure whether he did the same thing for ASG-2 but he certainly approached earsonic and heir audio for sure and they just said 'it is what it is'. Even the fact that SM64 was quickly modified and revised so short after it releases perhaps acknowledge that even earsonic realized how bad their sm64 v1 was that they were willing to risk doing it anyway!
