Has anyone compared the HPA-21 with the Auralic Taurus?

I must admit that I don't know enough about amplifier designs, but it seems that the Erzetich amps are also current drive amps like the HPA-21.
Well. it's all about your acceptance of sound with no damping factor applied to the transducer. You gain a couple of dB in mid-bass where the transducer resonates and no voltage control of the transducer's behavior. Some people like this kind of presentation. For instance the Beyerdynamic T1 sounds thick and dark from the HPA-21. I find it false and flavored presentation overall and I'd rather choose a different headphone and drive it from an amplifier with low output impedance, which I actually do. Of course, there is a voltage output in the Bakoon as well.

Not directly but I'm sure that the HPA-21 is a better amp besides others that I find better than Auralic, too.

As said, Auralic lacks refinement and nuance. Bakoon has tons of power and precision and refinement and soundstage.

Taurus is not Aquarius…∞

Hey Skylab,

Was your review ever posted? I read through this whole thread and did a search on Innerfidelity and couldn't find it.

Thanks!

The Bakoon was so good he probably has done a runner with the amp. ;)

No, the review was never published and I sent the amp back to Tyll.

what were your thoughts on the Bakoon and how does it compare to the Taurus? Thanks.

What are people's favourite and least favourite HP with the Bakoon?

The TH Foxteses and all the planars, including my H6, are just phenomenal. I also tried the T1 and HD800 but I thought they sounded off and just weird but there is few Bakoon owners who seem to love  it with the HD800.

The most surprising for me is that I really enjoy the Shure 846 out of the current output while all my other iems had be used through the voltage output.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Bakoon amp. Looking at all your gear, i'd be surprised if you liked it.

Personally, i found it a little "dry". Good details. But didn't think it's all that superior compared to some others. I tried it with the current out with an lcd-3 and hd800 on the voltage out.

I had HD 800 with SPL Phonitor : horribly dry and agressive, partly due to Phonitor, mostly due to HD800.

HD 800 being already a relatively dry and dull headphone, I guess you should listen Bakoon with TH900.

Quite another kettle of fish.

It's spooky how the notification for this post arrived as i was reading a comparison between the 812 and the th900.

For the record, that wasn't me browsing all those adult sites. I cannot speak for my cat, however.

I don't plan to get into any detailed discussion on the Bakoon. No, I didn't personally think it was anywhere near as good sounding as an amp in its price class should be. But that's just "with my ears and gears" wink.gif
