great.. please ask about availability (& specs) of the next  battery operated BAKOON DAC, ment to be paired (same size)  with the HPA-21 !

I've told you guys everything I know at the moment...

From this picture it looks like there is room on the PCB for two batteries, just like HPA-21.

BTW Also note this:

We're proud to announce that AUDIO(phile) of Germany has just selected our HPA-21 as the new reference headphone amplifier!! With a total score of 125, the HPA-21 also clears out the previous reference's 115 point score.

This is the reviewer's description: "It is easier to sail a small boat in a storm whilst riding a unicycle, than finding a better headphone amp than the Bakoon HPA-21."

And also the headfonia review of course: http://www.headfonia.com/bakoon-hpa-21-the-current-amp/

HPA-01 is slimmer than the HPA-21, but... is it still battery operated ?

What are the downside of HPA-01 v/s the HPA-21 ? What weight ?

And...  when will BAKOON have the DAC to associate to the HPA Amps ? (Battery powered & same HPA form factor)

I have asked about the DAC a month ago and that sadly what Bakoon replied:

"At this moment, we cannot guarantee if the matching DAC would be released, but we know there’s demand and we hope we can make this happen soon enough."

I forgot to ask about the dac unfortunately since I was listening to audeze line, and ending up buying his demo example of lcd-3 he (klutz design owner) brought for a tiny sum wink.gif

But the new smaller bakoon amp sounded very promising. My head was shaking with the lcd-x and Bjork hyperballad. Amazing sound, the one who buys it won't get dissapointed. Beats balanced Hd800 setup with miles. (Hdvd800 + HD800 + balanced cables)

Does the smaller bakoon also run on battery ?

Did they says what is "reduced" in the smaller bakoon in term of SQ ?

Good to get some official pictures, then I don't need to use my crappy phone pics.

HPA-01

Klutz Design's room at the High End Show in Stockholm. On the table to the left: HPA-01 + SW + LCD-X, Gemini 2000 + stock balanced cable + LCD-XC, HPA-21 + SW + LCD-3.

Unfortunately I haven't listened to HPA-01 or Gemini 2000 yet, I had to work at the show today. But tomorrow I will do some listening.

Some info:

HPA-01 uses the same batteries as HPA-21, but they last a little bit longer due to lower power consumtion. HPA-01 was powered on approx. 9 hours at the show today.

The SATRI circuit is not a separate PCB but mounted directly on the main PCB. There is only one PCB, hence the assembly cost is lower.

As you can see from the picture it has one voltage output and one current output and a gain switch, just like HPA-21 has. HPA-01 only has one RCA input though, i.e. there is no SATRI-LINK input. The RCA sockets are PCB mounted.

It felt lighter than HPA-21.

Quote:

"The main idea and design concept of the HPA-01 is to provide our excellence in headphone amplification with the SATRI Circuit and current driving output topologies, in a more affordable and portable package.

With the HPA-01 you get approximately 80% of the performance of the HPA-21 at 60% of the price."

Soo-In Chae, Bakoon Products International

HPA-01 price in Sweden: 16995 SEK

HPA-21 price in Sweden: 28495 SEK

The shown unit is a pre-production unit.

Thanks a lot for all thoses infos.

" HPA-01 has NO SATRI-LINK input" .

My question:  without the matching DAC that may... never be released, what is the use of this SATRI-LINK input ?  What can be connected to it ?

Since it is a connectoin standard unique for Bakoon - nothing.

Edit: You can of course connect other Bakoon products, i.e. EQA-12R SATRI Phono Preamplifier and probably also products from Bakoon Japan.

That brings Bakoon back onto my radar. I have counted the HPA-21 off as the battery life isn't long enough for my needs and because I felt it was more designed for planar headphones(too much power for my dynamics.) I look forward to hearing some impressions.

Agree.  I just hope that there will not be "significant" reduction in SQ !

The HPA-21 is praised for its incredible SQ, and we want ....the same with HPA-01  :-) (at least with dynamics and "easy to drive" planars").

So if it is just "less power" that is fine, but id it is less SQ/Soundstage...  NO NO !

Audio-gd do state some of their products to be compatible with the SATRI thingy.

Actually, the best headphone I've tested with the Bakoon was a regular dynamic, the Fostex TH-900. In current mode, a headphone's impedance curve effectively becomes the frequency response, so you get some interesting results with dynamic headphones. Sometimes it just doesn't work out because the curve is too wildly swinging, but some other times the results are spectacular. With planars, on the other hand, the Bakoon amplifies in a very linear fashion, since planars have ruler flat impedance curves.

Anyone try the LCD-XC with the HPA-21? The LCD-XC is a little on the brighter side compared to LCD-X, just wanted to see if they had the same synergy that other's are reporting.

Thanks!
