The DIY thread..... - Page 2

I think I paid around $250 for the kit for the parts but that did not include the tubes, speaker and amp cabinet. It's based on the 5F1 design which is popular among guitar DIY people. I love it. It's great for small gigs, recording (Eric Clapton used this type) and practicing.

This was my first major DIY project and IMO a good start for beginners who are guitar oriented.

anyone one got any idea about which amp will best fit a hd518?

my next headphone will be a mdr-1r so a amp for both will be awesome.....

Yup, happens to everyone.

Hey, we should all design a floor standing headphone tree!  Because some of us have got a bunch!

Lets do that....
How do you wanna tackle it???
I have a few free weeks!!!!

Dunno, first we have to design it though.  My big worry is with stability.  I don't want to load it down with a super heavy base if we don't have to.  But at the same time, I want the thing to resist tipping (and even the occasional cable snag when pulling off cans in a rush).  Am I crazy or will a three-sided obelisk thingee work?

i think three legs would work fine......

tripods hold cameras with heavy tele-lenses so why not headphones?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... four legs would be better, but maybe a little overkill.  What material?  Wood would be the easiest for people to source world wide, but metal would be cooler, and bamboo even cooler than that.

I think something flexible.....

I have this really small tripod made of this flexible thing.....

you can easily move the legs in a way to counter balance a heavier side.....

I'll post a pic of it.....

Its not very flexible but is is flexible to the extent that it could be bent to counter balance stuff.....

this may work.....

I just don't know what it is......

So like a REALLY BIG gooseneck thing?  Would probably need to be at least an inch in diameter for the size we're thinking of right?  BTW, what size are we thinking of?

an 3/4 to an inch....

maybe 18'-24'???

where to get it is my question????

we could have like an hour glass shape.....

just stuck firmly in the middle and same number of legs as headphone hangers????

keeps the designing to a minimum, so that anyone can make it?????

Wait, I'm not following...

lets say you take 5 goose necks of about 18"...........

if we tie them all to gather at 9" we will be able to have the same amount of legs as there will be branches......

18"-24" I meant the height.....

3/4 to an inch I meant the diameter of the goose neck......

Wait, lol, I think we have two very different sizes in mind.  I was thinking of something about 6-feet tall... capable of holding about a dozen headphones.  Too ambitious?
