The amp has all the bells and whistles that you need like gain,eq,replaceable battery. The total price would be <$80-$90 max.

NAh, he can't. Iphone 5's lightning connector is only digital, so you can't use fiio LODs as it doesn't have line-out. So unless he goes for an iphone compatible DAC/amp combo, most of which are in the $500 range he can only double amp through the headphone-out or go for a bulky lightning to 30pin adapter connected to a LOD but then the crappy DAC in the lightning adapter is used and not the one in iphone 5.

so I guess I'm gonna stay with the iPhone and save money for a better DAP like iBasso DX50 for example? What do you think about the sound quality output of the iPhone 5?

It's not bad for a phone but if you have the extra cash you might want to check the new dedicated DAPs like fio x5 or the ibasso dx90

is it worth to buy a DAP like X5 or DX90 if I only use the VSD1S, I mean am I gonna see a huge leap in term of sound quality compare to using the VSD1S on iPhone 5. Or should I just get the X3 or DX50 for less money?biggrin.gif

You were right, after a period of burn in my VSD1S sound much better!

Wondering how well these would hold up if dropped from say, pocket height? Does anyone here own the Ostry KC06? Any comparisons?

how did you burn in? Using white/pink noise or just listenning to normal music?
And can I ask which tips are best with the VSD1S?biggrin.gif

I have gazillion tips and I still prefer the stock ones that come preinstalled on it. My second choice if you want a bit more  air and sparkle will be the meelec m6 small single flanges

Thanks! I haven't got yet the IEM so I don't know if the stock tips will fit my tastes. I'm simply getting ready in case I have to order them!

after 1 week of listening to the VSD1S, I feel a difference in term of sound quality, the mid range now is a bit laid back compare to original out of the box. I dunno how to describe it but the vocal sounds very far and sounds like they hav stucked nose=.=, not sure how to describe it though:(, the rest are ok
