Yep, they're pretty good with those genres. Any peaky-ness in the treble can be turned down with a little eq

Ok thank you just wanted to double check and do you know if these need massive amounts of burn in time?

Mine sounded great out of the box. I think soundstage got a bit better over time. But this is probably psychologic.

Necessarily not but 50-100 hrs of burn-in is ok.......just try for yourself to hear the difference........I have vsd LE and it didnt make much difference but its there......its all how our brain perceives.

High guys. Just wondering what is the closest alternative to the VSD1S?

I love non recessed mids and would like an alternative since vsonics are not sold in the country i'm at.

Similar in sound but not exactly like the vsd1s is the Westone UM3X.

The Vsonics are easily obtainable via ebay and Amazon and ship quickly from China.  I had to get mine that way as well.

sorry not to disappoint you, but its more pricier than vsds. But you just did your math with what you have,im guessing which is appreciable

To add bixby's comment, you have online retailers like penonaudio, bigbargainonline(ebay shop),mp4nation and lendmeurears to opt yourself the signature you looking at,as they are legit sellers and offer intl shipping.

And wait for some more comments to pour from our mates...........I guess you are looking for similar budget as vsd just like its sound signature of non-recessed mids.

I was curious and got a pair of VSD1S. Initial first impressions are a little bit too much midbass possibly but mostly maybe not enough attack / bite / honk / upper midrange / lower treble / something 2.5 kHz+ or so. I'm still trying out different tips. For now I'm just going with a relatively shallow seal using the largest Sony Hybrids tips (pale green).

Did some quick experimenting with EQ based on the InnerFidelity raw measurements and shooting for less than diffuse field on the midrange and treble (I tried something closer to DF, but that seemed a bit too bright). Anyway, it looks like this:

Actually, the reverse of the above. i.e. a ~4 dB boost in the 2.3-4.3 kHz range, not a 4 dB cut. Slight 3 dB boost at 20 Hz, not a cut. Not really trying for much after 10 kHz, not like that contributes all too much anyway. Note that everything was eyeballed and nothing is exact here and not directly supposed to be any particular target anyway. The above image is from fudging around with the Room EQ Wizard parametric equalizer without actually, you know, having any measurements to work off of myself other than what's at IF. I need to experiment later with the boost around 7.5 kHz—that range depends a lot on the depth and seal you get, so it could be way off for me. The ~5 kHz bump is clearly the resonant frequency though and should manifest regardless, seeing as it shows in the impedance graph too.

Characteristic in the treble should be mostly similar for VSD1 too.

I applied it throughout Windows with EqualizerAPO (<- clicky). Install. Go to where it's installed, into config, and change config.txt to this:

Preamp: -8 dB
Include: vsd1s_v1.txt

The vsd1s_v1.txt file has my adjustments for the above. Put a file named that and containing all these lines in the same folder that has config.txt:
