[Impression] FiiO X3 – High Fi, Low Price. - Page 29

I've been impressed with the X3. My gripes are pretty much all design/function related. Sound-wise, I find no real, court-admissable faults at all with it. I finally published my full review of it today after getting a few headphones properly compared. At the price it is sold at abroad, amazing deal. Truly amazing. I'm excited to see where Fiio takes this series and hope to see a much better control layout.

But I don't think there is a player that truly tops the X3 for features/price/size. Yes, you get a number of 'betters' in the top end HM series and top DX series' players, but in terms of raw performance, the X3 isn't touched by its direct price bracket competition.

Nice photo! Planning to do a full review for the new dx50?

Hm, I'm not really digging the blue-tinted display...

Well, I don't have the DX50, so nothing in the works. Reviews really really zap my energy but I like doing them. If the DX50 is anything near the X3, it should be awesome.

Yes, that is one of the 'meh' parts to the X3.

Yup big fans of your site and always have stunning product shots. I m also an enthusiast photographer and know how hard and how time consuming it is to get pics as good as yours... lighting, placement, framing, post... really brings out the best in X3. Fiio should just purchase your photos for their official product shots!

And yup audio review is also a very tiring undertaking. I'm one of the first who got the dx50 and thought about doing a quick review. I ended up just enjoying the music..... biggrin.gif

Thank you for the compliments. I agree with you on every point- especially the last: sometimes it is just more fun to enjoy the music!

Nice review. Any thoughts on the soundstage of the x3?

I mentioned that in my review. Soundstage is very good. But beware, too much left/right separation can lead to disorientation. Our ears naturally hear both signals at once; when the two signals are extremely far apart as in the case of the X3, you can get disoriented. The X3 performs nearly flawlessly, but there are some negatives to that. You'd be hard-pressed to find a headphone player that came even close for that price/size.

"3.5mm Coaxial S/PDIF (adapted included)"

Excuse my ignorance, but does this mean that the X3 can directly output a digital signal to my DAC?

That's exactly what that means.

Will I make the X3 sound better when I use line-out to iBasso T5? How does the DAC compare to the one in DX50 and other DAP?

^^ Cheers.   Am working through all the pages right now, but a little worried about the lack of cover art.  I have a lot of ripped classical CDs which I recognize quickly by viewing the cover.   Having to try to ID them by name is going to be painful, esp as most music softwares dont really handle classical music too well.
