He is sending me a pre paid UPS label to send my player back so they can investigate if it is a problem with the player or simply a firmware thing and if its the latter then they can go about fixing that for all of us.

I did say that a few of us are experiencing this same issue. I got my player in August last year so I don't know if others with the same issue got theirs around the same time if so, perhaps it is indeed a batch issue.

Ian,

Have you tried re-installing FW 1.32 to check the "no back selection" issue vs. FW 1.37??  I have and it's definately connected to the FW 1.37, not the hardware, at least that's what I noticed.

Hopefully, you won't be wasting your time sending your 120 back when it's just a FW issue!  BTW, I emailed AK about this quite a while ago with the usual "we will look into that" response...then crickets....:(

Ha ha, beleive it or not, I've just cracked the step back button mystery on 1.37

A single press returns to the beginning of the track, but two quick presses goes to the previous track.

Et voila biggrin.gif

Hmmm....not really.  That 'sorta' works but usually with far too many button (or screen) presses required. If you want to see what it's supposed to work like...try the previous FW 1.32.  That's the way it 'should' work....One press does it, not two.....or three...;)

But is this not a new feature rather than a problem? one press is back to the beginning, two quick presses is the previous track.

I have checked, double checked and triple checked and it works every time.

AK's mistake was not notifying their customers they had made a slight functionality change.

I really don't see it as a negative though

Me neither, this is how many programs work. I've never had any issue with it working that way.

I agree - I believe that all of the devices I have function so that a single press of the back button takes me to the beginning of the currently playing track while two quick presses takes me to the previous track.

Nods.  AK100 works this way as does JRiver.

Ok well this is good. At least we can strike one non existent problem from the short list of AK120 problems ;)

Ian I hope you read this before you send your unit back.

The existing problems as I see them;

1. occasional skipping of the end of vbr mp3 tracks

2. distortion on some DSF tracks

3. shuffle mode always picks the same songs

Feature requests we would like to see;

1. DSF cover art to be displayed

2. universal playlist support

Anyone care to add anything?

Bugs

1. Library management algorithm. It should be more tolerable to additional FLAC tag fields, which cause "0" and "1" instead of album names.

Feature requests

1. Cover.jpg and folder.jpg as albumart sources.

2. Font settings. Lesser font = more useful information.

2a. Scrollable folder names in Folder View and scrollable full file path in Info View

3. USB DAC support for Linux

Cool. Although I think most would count as feature requests rather than bugs per se

I'm thinking that as we have there ear right now and they are concious of the fact AK pre 240 owners are feeling abandoned, this will be the best time to make an organised list of bugs and requests to suggest for a firmware update.

It may well not happen, but it won't hurt to try. I will also be more than happy to pull all suggestions into a cohesive list.

Anything else we can add?

Shoot, I didn't but I will make a note of all of these and send them off to my contact there as I have his personal email. I know he will be very happy to get whatever bug list we have so that he can send it to the tech guys ASAP.

I hope I get mine back soon. I am now down to a first gen itouch for my music listening till it comes back.. Mind, it sounds nice, actually surprised how nice it does sound. Have not listened to it for years but kudos to apple I plugged it in to charge and loaded a few albums on it and it worked perfectly and sounds much better than I remember!

Ah sorry you had to send it back unnecessarily mate, but at least we now know it's not a bug.

Still irks me that AK only responds to service requests if you put them on blast on Facebook /sigh

I thought it best to send mine back to confirm if its a bug or if its a defective unit and if its the latter and others with the same issue are from a batch made when mine was then we know that at least they can be returned and fixed or given a replacement. That way we know where we stand either way.
