AK has a phone number now?  I've been trying to contact AK USA, EU and Japan for 7 weeks now sending to various emails on their web sites and the closest I've come to service is EU sending me to Japan and Japan asking me to copy paste the problem at the bottom of the email chain to the top because scrolling down is hard /facepalm

AK just posted this on their timeline page on Facebook:

"To all of our friends,

We are currently experiencing some internal challenges of coping with the broader responsibilities given to our team here in U.S. We will continue working on resolving the issues, so that you can offer the better customer service and the updates. Please bear with us a bit more. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

That's too late for now and for ever late.

Firstly, nice work Ian. Your email really hit home with them. I think they must have been concious this was a major issue as they seem be be very open now about the problems they are having and now this post on Facebook shows they are serious about rectifying it.

At the very least I respect their honesty

I'm curious about compare them.

Major differences are:
1, only 8gb internal and only 1 microSD slot.
2, coax and not optical out.
3, user replaceable battery, which is a big plus.
4, unofficial lay supports 64 DSD in DSF format, but not DFF for some reason.
5, more neutral sound with ESS Sabre DAC instead of the warmer sounds of Wolfson in AKs.

So they offered their apologies as to communication and also the issues we are experiencing with our players.

They have a very small team in the US office and one key member has left and the other is in hospital so they have been running on bare bones for a few months and the one in hospital is the one who is in charge of hiring and firing so there is one person who is available to do all communications.

They fully understand this is not acceptable for a premium products back up and are working hard on sorting this out.

Also after talking about the issues with the player he has asked me to send mine back as we walked through the back selection process and his 120 did it fine and mine did not so perhaps a batch of them have this issue.

He is sending me a pre paid UPS label to send my player back so they can investigate if it is a problem with the player or simply a firmware thing and if its the latter then they can go about fixing that for all of us.

I did say that a few of us are experiencing this same issue. I got my player in August last year so I don't know if others with the same issue got theirs around the same time if so, perhaps it is indeed a batch issue.

I will let everyone known if my player is faulty or if it is a firmware issue as soon as mine is back there and looked at and they have gotten back to me so keep your eyes out.

He is instructing his technical team about this issue though so that they can now look into it for us.

I am happy with this. Things happen, thats life but as long as there is communication then everything can be sorted. I made this clear to him that even if its just one line here or on social media that they are experiencing difficulties so normal service is being interrupted then we will be happy as we all have things happen in life so understand (hopefully) when they happen to someone else!

He also assured me that all AK customers are valued and once again they are really sorry for the mistakes made thus far and are working hard on rectifying them.

Hope that helps and I will be sure to post the results of my player once it is seen by them.

You mean ''AK120 is better of course.Don't talk nonsense.''

Right ?

Everyone hears things differently and most are positive of the way they hear things, one way or another. Mostly avid about it out here too. Thus a loaded question. I have only heard the 120 of the two but i wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole.

I have had two different headphones that are in the $1500. range and have had several users try to debate me that their 3 or 4 hundred dollar phones sound better, even when i have owned all of the phones in question, or at least have a lot of experience with all, and liked them all. It is a matter of being in different leagues.  So when i read a question like that i giggle and then cringe. :p

Power they are about the same, and it is not necessary sounds better but different.  However, for $430 and does 95% of AK120's functions, picking the DX90 is really a no-brainer.  Did I mentioned that the DX90's output impedance is <1 vs. 3 ohms of the AK120 or AK100MK2?

And May 15th we find out if it's usb dac works properly UNLIKE the AK usb dac which grows more and more out of sync with input over time /facepalm

Thanks mate. It was a suggestion I made that they just post a note on their social media to let folks know whats happening. I said its the silence that causes most of the problems. In this internet world where everything is instant timely communication is all. My hats off to them for now seeing the issue and starting to deal with it. I personal could not ask for more. As I said, things happen in life that can scupper plans or what you would rather have it be but as long as the issue is communicated I find most people understand it and then are fine with waiting.
