I believe that he means that it's a very expensive product and buying it means that you will keep it for many years, at least the majority will, I would..
So the lack of support is a major issue and ak stop supporting their products really quick once the newest model arrives, but that's just speculations, wait for the op to answer that.

Anyway, I never had an ak product but wanted to buy an ak120 not so long ago, the uk price was £1100 while the US price was $1299 which equals to £736 atm, these are imports for both uk and USA and even Europe so I feel that the price European are paying is really unfair and it's reflected to the classifieds here, people who bought it from Europe will lose nearly 40% if not more if the original price they paid! but that's in case they want to sell it so not very relevant .

Good thing you didn't. Did you know they couldn't or didn't bother to even fix common bugs like MP3 clipping, random undetectable SD cards and shuffle for nearly a year?
Their excuse is they have a very small team. Yet you can see updates on new features and bug fixes coming out for their new AK240.
They also mentioned in December an update will be out for AK100 in January. Guess what, it's already May smily_headphones1.gif

So they don't respect their clients, well the quality alone isn't not enough :/

I have just posted this private message to one of the people working at Astell & Kern USA. I am leaving out the recipients name but have told them I am posting it here!

"Hi xxxx.
As you know, I have been a staunch supporter of Astell & Kern in the past and love my AK120 apart from a few annoying things such as the back selection button not working as it stays on the same track and does not go to the previous, also the on screen volume control leaves a great deal to be desired in terms of usability.

The biggest issue I am having as well as many other owners of the 120 and 100 is that since the 240 came out we have all but been forgotten!

I have posted here and of headfi about these issues but zero response!

We have invested in a product and in the case of the 120 owners your top of the line product at the time and yet less than six months after purchase myself and other owners feel all but forgotten in terms of firmware updates and communication.

I could have gone for any number of players but in part the reason I went for A&K was the great communication from all of you there. It gave me confidence to put my hard earned money down instead of sticking with HiFiMan.

This experience of completely being ignored now where as before the 240 came out I would have had an answer from A&K almost immediately is leaving a very bad taste not only in my mouth but in other 120 owners mouths.

This really needs to be address xxxx as you are still selling both the 120 and 100 and those of us who put our money down on a brand new brand and a premium amount of money at that deserve better customer service!

Honestly, now the new one has come out its like your companies attitude is if we have not jumped on "upgrading" to the new one then screw you, we only like you when you buy stuff from us!

I hope that is not your companies attitude but the complete lack of communication and participation on here and on the 120 forum certainly feels like thats how you feel about us now "lesser" customers!

What I feel bad about most though is that I personally have had over ten people buy the 120 on my recommendation and a large part of that recommendation was the excellent customer communication and attention to addressing problems I had experienced prior to the 240 coming out!

I look forward to hearing your response xxxx and I hope my fears are proven wrong by Astell & Kern.

I have now heard the 240 and like it though am not ready to make a purchase but in truth am not willing to make a purchase in the main due to how us 120 owners have been forgotten by A&K.

After all, if your doing that to those of us who have owned the former top of the line player less than a year then what happens when the 420 or whatever it will be called comes out? Will all the 240 owners be discarded like the rest of us?

Your company is selling a premium product, it is the Rolls Royce of portable players. My family are Rolls Royce owners and I can assure you that owners of older cars are treated as well as owners of the very latest.

Just food for thought for Astell & Kern!
Regards.
Ian."

Well done mate. I'm interested to hear what they have to say for themselves. It would be nice to think the AK120 still has some legs

Hell yes there is a "big" difference!  If you "upgrade" to 1.37 you will lose the ability to reverse tracks (go back <<). Please read Ian's post above for a better desciption.

FW 1.32 does not have this problem, so if I were you, I would stay with 1.32, until Astell&Kern wakes up and fixes the problem.

OK, just got off the phone and as always in this immediate internet world communication is so important.

So they offered their apologies as to communication and also the issues we are experiencing with our players.

They have a very small team in the US office and one key member has left and the other is in hospital so they have been running on bare bones for a few months and the one in hospital is the one who is in charge of hiring and firing so there is one person who is available to do all communications.

They fully understand this is not acceptable for a premium products back up and are working hard on sorting this out.

Also after talking about the issues with the player he has asked me to send mine back as we walked through the back selection process and his 120 did it fine and mine did not so perhaps a batch of them have this issue.

He is sending me a pre paid UPS label to send my player back so they can investigate if it is a problem with the player or simply a firmware thing and if its the latter then they can go about fixing that for all of us.

I did say that a few of us are experiencing this same issue. I got my player in August last year so I don't know if others with the same issue got theirs around the same time if so, perhaps it is indeed a batch issue.

I will let everyone known if my player is faulty or if it is a firmware issue as soon as mine is back there and looked at and they have gotten back to me so keep your eyes out.

He is instructing his technical team about this issue though so that they can now look into it for us.

I am happy with this. Things happen, thats life but as long as there is communication then everything can be sorted. I made this clear to him that even if its just one line here or on social media that they are experiencing difficulties so normal service is being interrupted then we will be happy as we all have things happen in life so understand (hopefully) when they happen to someone else!

He also assured me that all AK customers are valued and once again they are really sorry for the mistakes made thus far and are working hard on rectifying them.

Hope that helps and I will be sure to post the results of my player once it is seen by them.
