Just did a quick test with my W4R and AK120 and DX90: DX90 is totally fine, but for the AK120 there are a lot of high freq statics.  I am charging my M8 right now and setting up my VC SDT for further tests.

Not  a bad deal for UK buyers looking to upgrade.

We are getting a lot of enquiries about the fabulous Astell&Kern AK240 DAP but know the price (however good value the product is in comparative terms) is hard to find at £2,199.00, so we have decided to offer a trade-in deal for any other Astell&Kern player, to make ownership of the state of the art AK240 a little more palatable!

Astell&Kern AK240

Model

Trade-in price*

AK120 Titan

£1,359.00

AK120

£1,399.00

AK100 MKII

£1,699.00

AK100

£1,799.00

*Subject to your trade-in item being in good condition without scratches or dents, and complete with original box and accessories.

If you wish to take up this offer, we will need to see your player first – send it to us for examination we'll make you an offer based on its condition.

Further credit for Astell&Kern aftermarket accessories (such as docks) also available.

Any questions? Please email us at sales@soundfidelity.co.uk.

Best regards,

Sound Fidelity

Wow i pity the UK folks... I had an AK100MK2, and even with the trade in price, i could still keep the AK100MK2, get a brand new AK240 at retail price AND still have enough money to get another IEM worth $250+

We're ripped off alright. I doubt they'll sell many AK240s over here at their current price. We can get the Chord Hugo for £800 less.

You can't really compare the Hugo with the AK240. One is am all in one portable device and the other is just DAC and amp. I don't think it's a bad deal if you have an AK120 and wanted to upgrade to the AK240. AK120 only really goes for about £600 used. It means they're offering to pay £800 for the AK120 so that's £200 more. Still expensive I know.

I think both the Hugo and the AK240 will appeal to people in the market for a high-quality portable device. Granted, you can't store music on the Hugo but by most accounts it sounds better and, in this county at least, it's much cheaper. I know which way I'd go.

Trade in prices have got to offer an incentive to the customer to buy from the retailer. Parting with a very good DAP as well as having to pay out another small fortune to obtain a new one wouldn't be enough of an incentive for me because I believe that £2200 is way too expensive in the first place.

Chord have their prices in line on both sides of the Atlantic. Astell & Kern should follow suit and reduce the price of the AK240 in the UK.

I agree the price is high, but I think as an all in one package it's the best out there. The price does need to come down. if it was about £1600 then I think it would be worth it.

Also remenber  it's the VAT that really hikes up the price, so not Astell and Kern fault

If it's 20% then i still think the retailers are overcharging...

It's around 10-15% where i'm from, and after converting it's only retailing around 1,550 pounds here. And that's before we negotiate for a slight discount..

Yes, especially with the US prices I think that the uk price is very unfair even with the 20% vat.
Astell and Kern is German or Asia located company ?

Korean,

but they are well known for being a money grubbing company. Once they release the AK360 or AK480 the firmware support for AK240 will quickly diminish
