The Astell & Kern AK120 - Page 348

I am a recent owner of the 120 titan and have a couple of questions for anyone patient enough to help me out.....how does one navigate through long lists of songs or artists? It takes me forever to get from a-z and i don't find any real help trying to use the bar that shows up on the right side! Why does the unit only scan up to 10,000 songs?I have some 25,000 songs on my unit divided among the internal storage and 2 micro cards of 64GB .If I press the album or artist icon I see a limited and incomplete and out of order listing of my music, only when I access the music using the folder icon can I find all of my music on the micro cards and the internal storage?

Use libary scan... although I find it annoying when you've only put one album and it has to rescan the entire device. Perhaps something they can fix with a new firmware update if enough people kick up a fuss. Suppose if you're clever you can use the genre setting or go by folders instead of albums as it does not display artwork and might be quicker.

As stated earlier the delivery time was very long to the US.

£4 and free delivery, wow... obviously not too short then.... can you fit them inside the leather case as nashton mentioned? Doubt two would fit.

Did you see the "Last one / 89 sold" ? Has it always been $130, I doubt it....so I think we have the answer:

Supply & Demand = Gouging...

I think it's just that seller, might have made a mistake when listing.... can find a shorter version for $6 elsewhere so we're ok... for now.

Ok, won't fit on the Buttero case but will fit in this nice Body Glove case which is perfect for the AK120 (I have one) and is expandable with elastic sides so you can easily have 2 SD adapters.

Yeah, case is way too tight for the cards to fit in. It also gets quite hot and needs ventilation so another case would be a better idea.

a.   I've recently found that if you find the sweet spot on the right hand side the bar actually acts like an arrow down and you can zoom, fast. I've used with Artists, I am assuming it would work for songs to. A search function would be a nice thing to have.

b.  I believe I've read that the AK120's memory can only track up 10,000 songs. Can someone please confirm?

One of the things i hope they change on the next update is that stupid volume bar. I have small fingers but can never get it to go right to the far right when I want to use it as a line out for my amp. A broader bar across the middle of the screen would be much easier.

The AK120 has a 'G spot' .heh.

Might end up with one of those tablet pens. Easier.

Smart, I have three left over might try that. I usually listen on shuffle mode so no biggie.

WHAT ABOUT jlbrach'S QUESTION OF 10,000 LIMIT OF SONGS?

Dunno... only have a few albums on mine, am saving for a RW mod.... need to ask STVC and others who've modded the memory. It counts the files as it scans the libary so I'd assume if they say there's a limit it will/might cap out at that point, doubt there's a core i7 processor in it.

Not sure what it calls 'files' though, if its scanning for music in the music folder can others go into other folders? (I doubt this). Does it count album art as a 'file' if so can they can be cut out of tagging for more space (10 tracks per album av = 1000 extra 'files' if artwork is not included)... also you could be smart and record/burn certain albums as one track, not good for shuffling as you mentioned but some people into classical might not be so bothered and if you want a track you should know what album its on and be able to FFW to it if you wanted I guess. That means you can get 10,000 albums on the device instead of individual tracks .lol.

Someone needs to hack the software before things get really pushed i suppose, unless its a hardware limitation of some sort.

I know that Cowon always publishes their DAP file limitations with internal and external memory but none of these companies (FiiO, iBasso, AK) seem to do that... my AK100 MK2 seems to at least get upward 5,000 song files (67xx actually). Not sure about 10,000 or even 25,000  (are those microSD cards filled with 120kbps mp3s?!?!?!)

Hmmm... need a fine point or pixel point stylus for it really, others are a bit big...

Would be good.

I actually called iRiver today and spoke to a tech today who told me that yes there is a 10,000 song limit that the unit can scan and as such only 10,000 songs can be accounted for in the players internal memory....i use the folders for the players internal memory and the micro cards but this is not how it was explained to me initially....i was originally told that the internal memory and that on each of the micro cards would be combined together and then properly shown in either the album or artist icon....unfortunately that is not the way it works sadly...I have 25,000 songs on my titan unit and the only way for me to access them is by using the folders rather than having everything combined together.......I told the tech that it was absolutely ridiculous that a product that allows for 256 GB of space is limited to cataloguing 10,000 songs......sound-wise it is a great product which is why I will put up with all of the UI issues...that said there is a lot of work left for iRiver to bring the UI experience up to that of the sound quality.....for the time being i will settle for some better way to navigate my music and hopefully the ability to scan and catalogue all of my music not just 10,000 songs
