If we Vinnie can get this done I will personally do the homework to get a case tooled up for everybody who wants one...

If it were 7/8" thick (~ 22mm), for instance, and a killer amp stage and battery could be added in to the RWAK120, would it is
be too thick or still a good size for a one piece solution?

Not saying this is being planned - I'm just thinking out loud. wink.gif

Wow I'm afraid to think how much the selling price would be..
With the inclusion of the amp, would that mean we could eliminate the use of external amps and use the headphone out and volume dial of the AK?

I had a hard time yesterday thinking about how much a RWAK240 would cost, too.. :o

Price would be high, but if it was around that of the AK240 and it was significantly better, then it could be an option for those who were going that

route anyway.  You guys know the price of the RWAK120S and B, and you know the price of a good amp for it and good cable - so you get the idea.  It wouldn't be a money-saver compared to separates.  The concept would be to give portability and the sound that you'd get with the best of separates, but all in one and tweaked out to the gills.    Again - it is just a concept.  I think what triggered it was another headfi'er emailed me about spare parts for an AK120 - to help in the process of him combining his RWAK120-B and external amp.

The dual WM8741s would still be used, so no digital volume wheel.  I would go with an analog pot (I prefer analog attenuation of the line-level signal to doing it digitally anyway).  And it would need a gain switch so it is optimized for IEMs and larger cans.

I really wish I had more time - it's been "balls to the walls" with other projects and the home audio line...

But I'll keep it floating around in my head, and that's a good thing because that usually means it will wake me up from the middle of sleep with

more ideas. :veryevil:

Would the ballpark service cost for upgrading from AK120 to "RWAK120B + Amp" be around 1300-1400 usd?

Sorry, I don't know the origin of it.  I think that it was actually an AK120 fw that was modded to run on the 100, though. Did you search the thread and read the old posts?
