And as as the explorer was my bottom line I was expecting a bit more especially for $1300. For some reason I feel more willing to fork over $$$ for say a Meitner ma-1 than this. Maybe I value sq over convenience a lot more

Still you are comparing apples with oranges.. This is portable. One can just slip this into their pockets with an IEM... what you seek is so so different..

This is more in the league of DX100 or Hifiman 901..

Will hold out a bit more and see what 2014 has to offer. Let's see what this AK240 and Calyx M can bring to the tBle.

I wonder if they had less than 1 ohms impedance... if not another 600 for RWAK-240B.. .a 2.5k dap?

I seriously hope so, as the 3 ohms impedance is the biggest draw back for the AK120.  To be honest, I have a feeling that iriver is just going to copy the RWAK mod with the 1 ohm impedance, dual 4871 DAC, 128+ Gb internal, and maybe a new case or screen and sell it for double the price...

Hmmm. it may have lower impedance but i don't think they will just copy and paste.. too obvious? haha. But surprise that AK120 still remain at 3ohms as RWAK100 is already shown it can be done with less than 1 ohms.

True.  Personally I am only using my AK120 as a transport with its dual DAC for my HiFi M8 LX, so unless the DAC is drasticly changed for the AK240, my AK120 is pretty good enough... for now.
