No stability issues without the 3-ohm resistance.  I have tested that the added resistance only alters the frequency response with

lower impedance headphones.  I have some customers with 8-ohm IEMs (I forgot the make/model), so having 3 ohms on the output there WILL alter

the flat frequency response.  So if you want it the flattest and more accurate, the lower OI is better.

Not sure if some would prefer the altered response that some added OI gives - I guess it depends where in the freq. response the sound gets altered, the headphones

you are using, your personal taste, etc.

I hope this helps,

Could be the AKG3003 you are talking about?

Doing an email search shows you are correct!  ;)

I'm sure you're doing your best and I appreciate the efforts. Hate when that sort of R&D like you do on the 120 just gets copied. Some miss my point of what a nice stand alone piece the AK120 is even if it can be made better as a 2 piece. They are both worthwhile solutions and neither to be frowned upon.

I do find ears better at measuring complex issues. I'm in no way saying that you're wrong as I personally haven't listened to any AK100. Could be the lower damping factor at 3 ohms is warming things up so better isn't always better. Just preferred but some.

Absolutely - what sounds better to you IS better.  Measurements are important, but they do NOT tell the whole story.

The AK100 and the AK120 are very good players AS IS.  Nothing wrong with them unmodded - they still sound great!  If they didn't, I wouldn't

bother with them.  I find that they are a solid foundation to build upon greater performance (especially with the -S and -B mods to feed a good quality

external amplifier).

Wonderfully said. I've got to stop adjusting posts while busy. Sorry about the grammar.

Have I missed comments on the EQ settings changing with the updated firmware....? Noticed it last night while waiting 15 minutes for a bag of chips... yes, 15 minutes for a medium bag of chips.

Decided to see what the EQ would sound like on a Jazzy Jeff album and noticed that when the EQ is off its louder and has more 'colour' than when the EQ is on and the User EQ is flat.... think I've got that the right way round. Off should equate to Flat, just as Up should mean 'Forward'.

The difference is very noticeable db wise and would not be good if the device were being used as a source to an amplifier.

I would chose the Roxanne as I already have 1p2
