The WM8740 DAC doesn't support DSD, so...

That Hi-Fi World article doesn't comment much on the gap-less playback, no testing with high-end headphones or IEM's, and DSD playback doesn't work, which seems to correlate with the wrong choice of DAC for that feature, as has been pointed out. No comparison with HiFiMan, Colorfly or iBasso DAP's, once again.

On the german A & K page, there a link to what appears to be an article to be published in Audio.de's June edition magazine, in which the magazine's editor Christine Tantschinez seems to confirm gap-less playback. It seems there indeed is an option to activate it in a menu, as can be seen in the illustration. However, the output impedance the lab mesured wasn't 3Ω as A & K advertises but 5Ω. The graph is rather unlegible for further usefull information.

£1,000 is peanuts in the HIFI world for a Hi Resolution Music Player.

You think so? So you suggest portable prices must be equal to front end components? Cool... but not in my book.

If they use the same components and build , then why not ? It's a front end component , just also fits in a pocket.
Just thanks that Iriver is making it and not Meridian,Linn or Naim. They would put a zero on the end !
If it sounds as good as my Ikemi or old CD12 it will be a bargain

No DSD what a shame on their part.

I think that is precisely the reaction they are hoping for.

Price bloated boutique audio has arrived in the headphone world for good I'm afraid. It will go well with the 12000 dollar rebranded Audeze, Goldmund HP1's.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was not being built for about 30 bucks in some SEA sweat shop.

Will upload more pictures tomorrow, getting late here...

UI menu is much better..........only criticism at the moment is, STILL NO GAPLESS unless it is user option. Will go through the instruction manual later.

So far, for me I feel price is justifiedregular_smile%20.gif but I have only listened with the FitEar MH335DW

This player (at least on paper) is just what I have been waiting for. If it wasn't for the price I would get one.

You have each DAC only processing the right or left channel.  Each DAC has less to process, which in turn can increase sound quality.  A&K claims to have accomplished this.
