oh wow, the AK120 titan got my attention.

Honestly I find the way iriver is handling its AK product releases very unorganized and amateurish, they are all over the place, so random it almost feels line they are releasing their Prototypea in different part of the world just to test the market before releasing it as a major product. Not happy.

Pfffft.... a nice new shell, a bit more memory and, what else? I'm not seeing anything of value being added here.... there's no sonic variety on offer.... and if its not on iRivers site its not legit.

Meh, is my opinion on the matter.

My Italian is very rusty as it has been many years since I lived in Florence but it does seem these are official AK releases to supplement the existing AK100/120 not replace.

The AK100 has a 3 Ohm headphone output impedance, leather Buttero case and some music loaded already. The AK120 has a Ti scratch resistant case, 128G on board memory and black Buttero case.

Prices are:

AK100, €729 (US $988 at todays XE exchange rate)

AK120 €1390 (US $1884)

From what I can read those are the only changes. Not sure what the output impedance will do for sound on the AK100 but the changes on the AK120 are purely cosmetic and memory so if you want more memory and a Ti case and black leather case go for the new one and if your like me and never take the brown case off and find with two 32G cards plus the onboard 64G that you have more than enough memory already your good to go with your existing AK120!

Addendum, Those prices quoted do not include the Italian tax, not sure what that is. I know in Britain if those prices apply and then have VAT added that would bring an AK120 VAT included to £1393 (US $2259!)

There are a lot of hi-fi DAPs on the market right now, hisoundaudio, colorfly, fiio and other Chinese originated ones. What makes this stand out from the rest? Who the heck is Astell and Kern?? (rhetorical question, lol)
I've tried most of the recent Daps, except the 120, the Colorfly C4 is still the most powerful and fun sound. It's quirks and Uniqueness is its main problem for most, but this robs many of top sound for the money.

AK120 Titan got my attention since I am always interested in higher capacity but iRiver's prices are just.... sigh..

haha.... i will wait for ak130 because high risk they will release it on the day when i would buy 120. meanwhile i wait for Calyx biggrin.gif

with AK pricing there is no need to rush before competition will make them understand.

They should learn from FiiO, you don't need to spend 1300 euros to get high quality products nowadays.

Amen to that. XD

It's not just a matter of quality. Although I wonder from what angle you guys are talking about? In terms of sound quality I doubt they compare. Not that I'm saying I agree with the $1,300 pricing because it is exorbitant for sure. But the product also sounds damn good, has a good UI, lots of capacity, and better build quality from what I've seen on the X3 (as it should at its price). Between the DX100 and the AK120 I'd take the AK120 any day.

cannot tell, but from what i compared AK products are very very good for sound but clearly overpriced because of small niche and few alternatives. this is why i hope Calyx and the likes will help to kick AK butt for good biggrin.gif

but i would not change my Rwak for Fiio, no matter what tongue.gif

Hey Modders,

I am also really happy with the SQ of the AK120 but I would be very interested in a mod that gave more storage. I currently have two SD>MicroSD adapters taped to the back of my unit, and I have more high resolution music than will fit on two 128GB cards and internal memory.

I would be very interested in a mod that adds a bunch of MiroSD slots and a couple of SD's without worrying that I'll bump the unit and and screw it up.

Sam, out of curiosity how much memory at one time is the AK120 recognizing with the adaptors?
