The Astell & Kern AK120 - Page 294

... the images and dimensions in the catalogue show that the male has a ring around it, kind of gives the impression that the female plug would sit around rather than inside it, like a Hirose, has a ring on the inside to connect inside the male:

Left is male... right is female...but I'm sure with those connectors the female plugs into the male as there's no image to show that it connects like a Hirose.... still, that part of the body/shell would have to drop down into the volume guard to connect with the plug leaving the rest of 'M' on the outside of the device.

All,

The TRRS jack that I use (with right angle plug to mate with it) makes a secure connection - it clicks into place and is secure.

I explored the Lemo style, but it protruded out too much (and even more when you insert the mating plug, so it was far from portable

and did offer any sonic advantages that I could hear - assuming the soldering quality to the jacks and plugs was good).  It is also harder fit inside.

As an aside:

Peter Wong - I'm thrilled that you are enjoying the RWAK120-B modification that I did for you last month.  You must like it so much that you were inspired to come out with the PWAK120 - how original.  I especially like how you put your full name on the label on the player.  You must be so proud of your work.

But seriously, Peter, please reword the Q and A part on your website - you know, the one you COPIED AND PASTED from my

site.  It still says RWAK120 and RWAK120-B (not "PWAK120")

Do you really have to copy info about my warranty policy?  Is it that hard to come up with your own wording?  Really???

Quote:

機一旦mod左,就會無左原敵保養,本人只會跟red wine audio一樣,提供有限度保養,即包工唔包料

Q: Do you warranty your modification work?

A: Yes, we warranty both our RWAK120 and RWAK120-S modifications for as long as you own them (applies only for the original owner). Note - This excludes any issues unrelated to the modification, such as the battery, LCD, etc., but we still try to offer prompt repair service for such non-warranty items.

以上英文copy來自red wine audio的,意思姐係會提供保養,但要買家支付更換零件

再重申一次,ak120 零件係好貴,mod前請三思

I'm also glad I asked you to send back your iMod when you asked for a new iMod badge  instead of me sending you one.  I'm sure you would have DIY modded an iPod and pasted the badge on and tried to sell it, because you seem like such an honest fellow like that.   I know this because it's happened before (A guy in the USA bought the player with the replacement badge that I foolishly sent overseas, and it had problems.  I was surprised when I saw that the mod work was not mine.  Even a couple of inductors were left on the board when they should have been removed.  Wow...).

I know the RWA mods are not cheap, but at least they are original and I take good care of my customers.  If you are buying from someone who has to copy and paste my warranty policy to come up with one for his own site, then I'd be a little concerned.  And if he needs to buy a modded unit to try and copy because he can't figure it out for himself, then I'm really surprised he knows which end of the soldering iron to hold

Hi Vinnie,

Not meant to step into this nor do I wish to defend Peter. While I prefer original idea, Peter is honest at least with regarding to the warranty contents. He clearly stated that his warranty policy is exactly like you and quoted likewise.

I think it is clear he just copied everything from Vinnie, it is Hong Kong so i doubt he even did the mod himself,he probably has hired people who are doing it for him.

Hi sutjahjo,

He could have easily stated it in his own works (and asked me permission before copy and pasting from my website.  It does say

at the bottom of the site:

All contents copyright © 2013 Red Wine Audio. All rights reserved.
Any reproduction, without permission, is prohibited.

It's not like this type of thing doesn't happen all the time because it does.  He could mod many other popular players (e.g. iBasso) but

he chose to purchase the RWAK120-B and I'm sure he did so to copy it.  So it is hard for me to think that he is honest.

Honest people don't steal ideas, works from websites, etc.  I'm not saying that I'm perfect because I am not,  I'm just sayin' ....

As far as this particular reply, I do agree with you.

That's some whack sh*t. I seriously hope no one buys this knock off.
For me one of the worst things is when someone steals someone else's intellectual property or original ideas then clones them and makes them out to be there own. It not only steals the idea, it steals the time, effort, energy and investment of the person who actually has the intelligence and commitment to come up with the idea in the first place.

Imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery.. Unless the imitator gives due credit and a percentage of profits to the the originator!

I hope Mr Wong gets his just desserts!

I am really sorry this has happened Vinnie.

Vinnie,

Why not you offer the same mod for lemo connector.

Btw What your comment since some input mention that S mode output are better than B mode.

Shame that copycat is coming from HK.... Not sure whether RWA could contact HK police for this kind of copyright infringement....

I am gonna get slammed for posting this but I feel that this incident is really just a local DIY hobbyist who is extending this service at a more modest fee...just helping audiophiles who do not want to send their units overseas..its a bit dodgy to copy and paste content from other websites though

+1 CosmicHG

Yup, sounds and looks like that. Wonder if someone can advise him to take it down or change the words.

You make it sound so homespun, some little fellow sitting in his bedroom knocking off someone else's intellectual property and design. I simply do not see how you can say that is OK, even worse saying he is doing it out of the goodness of his heart to help poor beleaguered audiophiles!

I have this philosophy in life. If you can't afford the genuine thing then save up for it don't go out and but a knock off. A it is wrong and B, it is just so cheap and tacky to do it!

If I see someone with a fake Rolex on their wrist I just think what a loser!

let's agree to disagree..

I am not sure if I think correctly but: Did Vinnie register copyright for his mod? If yes, is it valid in HongKong?

If both of the answers are YES then Vinnie can go ahead and sue him. If no, I am afraid we can do nothing but "suggest" him to stop his service.

To me this situation is similar to Markl Mod. You sell the service then others copy your service and sell it for better price. Price sensitive customers will switch to other sellers and you can not charge premium anymore. As a pioneer, you rather think on innovation rather than stop and fight with the copycats. Otherwise, at the end of the day, your service and their services will be the same (as they will improve their services as well).

Although I do not support copycats but I can not admit that they bring benefits to end customers. They lower the premium charge and push pressure on the leader who will never stop innovate.
