S version are not balanced but b version yes , so s version just had a higher quality line out connector.

BIG downsides: Mod is permanent = you can't use yur AK as stand alone anymore....and $600-$700...not including amp and cable...:(

well might not be a big downside to some ... for those who already had the mod and really love it and would not give up for anything in the world. To them it might be a big down side without the mod ... haha it really depends on what you love and enjoy and how much you are willing to go for it ... haha its all up to individual preference ... haha but what we can all agree on is that we love good music ... haha

True but if you want a portable that is on the same level and in some cases even better than  desktop rigs (talking Vioelectric rig here) the mod seems like a very good way to take the audio experience on the go to a whole other level.

^ Agreed.

Is there a TOTL balanced inputs amp that's around the same size and no thicker than the 120? I know RSA amps work but they are kinda thick.

SR-71b almost same size to ak120 and 19mm thick if I not wrong overall stack up 32mm

Nice, do you mind to measure your overall interconnect cable length?
