The Astell & Kern AK120 - Page 246

The Moleskine XS shell fits the AK120 well, even better without the leather case. The fit is a bit tight but still works nicely.

can we agree that HiFi and portable gear = Wifey anger controllers?

one side effect i observe is when i put in earphones my wife all of a sudden feels the need to talk with me, so after several times taking off my IEMs i feel a bit mad, otherwise fine biggrin.gif

I tell you very bad story
As I got my LCD 3 last year , I tried in my Desktop amp with loud. Volume .
Suddenly my wife fell down because in front my bath room got water in the floor .
The very bad think I did not heard anything , because of excited LCD 3 biggrin.gif
I am very lucky is not so serious happened.
From that on my wife hate me , if I use close headphone or turn with loud volume

I hope this very bad story not happen to all of my friends in head fi

Now if my wife not around I always looking for her biggrin.gif

So the brick won you over, you aren't the first few of my friend skipped the ak120 right for hm901. Some just left portable audio for good. It will never end till we kill the desire inside us.

The 901 is not as sexy or convenient as the Ak120 for sure but remains portable. Much more so than these IPC Class Amp stacks...And I have a Tera for true portability. Be assured that I am waiting for the announced next AK DAP...even if it will cost 1.5k euros.

i think they moved it to next year and they are very hush about it. I don't think they will increase the price, it will be interesting to see how they are going to fit that dap with their current line up.

Well a slightly larger Ak120 with better dac and better amp and balanced headphone out...they can fit it in my pocket and take my money right now.

I'm okay with the dac part, but amp section needs to be seriously upgraded, and amen on balanced out.  Built it pretty and give me a pretty UI, I'm in.... until then, 901 is the ticket.

This might be a stupid question but how do you differentiate what aspects come from the DAC or the amp section when you cannot test it with a digital line out?

You are spot on that we don't have a way to separate the two.

My view is based on the sound I get when pairing it with the sr71b via HO.  The additional power do make it sound much better with most of my IEMs maybe except the fitear.  I was seriously considering getting the 71b before buying the hm901, and still remain interested if I do go for the rwak120B mod.

The speed at which iriver keeps releasing flagship daps worries me. I get the 901 in peace knowing there wont be another flaghip until a few years. But iriver released the 120 pretty soon after the 100, and now the "140" is coming out next year. It's way too fast.

Anyway. I had decided to wait for the new "AK140" next year. Any info about the release month of next year? I wondering what DAC and amp they would use in this new flagship. For now I only know that it will have a wider touch screen compares with the ak120s'. Hope they release the new flagship ASAP and finish my painful wait. More importantly, they should really slow down their speed after their next top of the line dap show on market...
