.

p.s. what's up will all those Tera Player guys dis-ing the AKs?
I like the Dignis case with the front flap to protect the screen. But I also love the Butero case...fragile but such great leather.

Are there really several TP owners dissing the ak120? Or always the same zealot? I for one own and love both. They both have their strenghts, but the ak120 is more of an all rounder while the TP is more esoteric...like the Kaede.

I think is more zealot for TP more than anything else.

I actually like the stock case/ saw a green prototype at the meet last month that was cool too. May get it for variety when released.

Apparently not all of them are doing so. There are some defectors as a matter of fact lol. It just really depends on preference and the gear you pair these DAPs with. The Tera Player is a very nice player (I have one on loan). But I'd take the AK120 any day over it. For me it would be a DAP to compliment what I already have. So it would be a 2nd or 3rd DAP opposed to my single unit solution which it clearly is not. The Teras sound is very unique though and is a sound (for me that is) that is only appreciated when I am laying down and concentrating on the music. It's not something that really pops out at you as the AK120 or DX100 does.

Good to know, and we need to do a better job on converting back to the flock.

Is the housing for AK120 scratch prone? And is the case tight enough not to allow any dust to slip between the cuts?

I cant say my pockets are clean all the time.biggrin.gif

Yes & No (some dust gets in you'll just have to clean it once in a while). The case is there to help protect the AK120 from getting scratched.

Folks, its leather, its a natural product, it gets scratched, its not a fault or a defect, its normal. I personally love the patina of leather as it gets used and kc's case looked wonderful.

If you don't like scratches then I would suggest a soft plastic case as everything else including hard plastic or metal will acquire scratches.

I got mine. Sounds VG on redbook out of the box. How long before it settles in? I like that it has some color. I can't say which I prefer between it and the HM901 from what I've heard so far and probably wont be able to since I don't have a 901 to compare. My listen to the 901 gave the impression that it's has less color but more openess. Really like wav on this player.

Give it a day or so and it mostly settles in. It'll change subtly with more usage but not as much as the first day of usage :). I find it to be a very nice combination of warmth, neutrality and analytical. It seems to encompass all three in some form or another which is ideal for me. Not going overboard in either aspect. I also strictly use WAV as I noticed a difference. Well for the 24/96 and 24/192 I just use Flac. Screw it lol....

Sorry for what is in all likelihood a very silly question that has probably been answered before here, I think sprks answered it but I just need a bit more clarity before I start downloading DSD from HDTT!

I know this player plays DSD64 (2.82Mhz) Can it also play DSD128 (5.64Mhz)?

If so, can someone tell me which, if either, is better? The price is slightly cheaper for DSD64 but not enough to make a difference to the decision.

DSD64 in player mode only (DAC mode won't work).  Sorry.

p.s. you can go to 2L and get some samples first.

Welcome to the flock, ALL PRAISE AK120, repeat after me...
More seriously, what made you chose ak120 over 901?
