iMod 4G is a modified iPod Photo. You can find more info about iMod in the RWA website. SE5 is a 5 way 5 driver custom iem made by Spiral Ear.

Gavin, can you share some impression about AK120 + SE5?

I have not listened to the SE5 for a while as I am waiting on something for the SE5normal_smile%20.gif

i love Rwak sound but i did not try stock AK, problem in Europe we have no chance but to risk money because no possible audition these things.

i am really intrigued about stock AK paired with external amp, Spkrs finds this is better sounding.

btw, i am surprised you changed from iCube amp to Vorzuge, what was the reason?

Yeah, Se5 costs bloody expensive and add AK120 price total combo would cost really too much and iMod plus Vorzuge would be not far from Ak120 price in $... hm, decisions decisions ... :-(

Just think about it as using the AK100 as a pre amp and buying a power amp. The signal coming out of a stock AK100 is great! From a purists POV it may be wrong, double amping, but I don't really see nor hear it that way and treat it like a preamp with variable outputnormal_smile%20.gif.

Yeah, DIY on 4g is pretty easy. But sometimes it pops up in classified for less than $200. That's pretty much a no brainer. Got my 60GB for good price, change the HDD to CF and fresh battery, good to go for another 2 years at least.

Of note as well is just about any device with a Wolfson can be reworked that way.

You should try the imod, it's pretty cheap nowadays if you look around in classified. It will cost you half the AK120 complete with a good amp like Vorzuge. If you don't like it you can always sell it for the same price. Price of iMod 4G is pretty much on their lowest already.

My iQube is out for loan. Somebody want to try using an amp for his iphone 4s. I'd say there is no turning back after using the iQube..

It would seem that you just made this up. Otherwise you have to check the quality of your sources.

Apple's profits are driven by the margins on their hardware. Hence the stock market is punishing them for the lower margins on the iPad Mini as well as the anticipated lower margins on a future bargain-level iPhone.

iTunes has traditionaly been pretty much a break-even operation that is operated to maintain Apple's hardware dominance. However that may be changing:

iTunes Not Exactly Break-Even Anymore

Now back to your scheduled Astell Kern program.  ;-)

lol but you'd spend $1,500 on a DAP?

I don't see why the concerns? You could easily sell the IEM at a minor loss (maybe $100 at most...). Plus factoring in its a universal and a highly sought after one (means higher resale value and it will sell fast).

We are going to be hearing more about this mod version in the near future. You know me, I'm a Apple UI guy all the way, and I am real close to pulling the trigger on the Mezzo Mod Ak100.......Dear Self, Sorry about your wallet. Yours Truly, Me blink.gif    biggrin.gif

Any details on one of how the AK120 fares against the stage 2 modded AK100?
