Shutting it down and turning it on again seems to be a sort of fix, but it's a PITA.
Are you on 1.32? It supposedly fixes this.

I'm on 1.32, yes. I'll try 1.30 later, since in the changes log they mention specifically doing something about SD card recognition bugs for that one. Maybe it wasn't carried over 1.32.

Its the opposite, 1.32 supposedly fixes card recognition bugs from 1.30. Apparently not systematically...

Well maybe his SD card is a Ninja SD. They go into stealth mode when threatened.

More likely it's the iriver FW that needs the "stabilization"...lol

Oops, indeed, mixed up the two pages for the respective FW.

Anyhow, they must have done something wrong somewhere, as I've never had the case once in almost two months' use with 1.00.

Zaroff do a full system reset from the advanced options. If that doesn't work try and reload the firmware again followed by another system reset. I had the issues you mentioned on 1.30. Not on 1.32... Always make it a habit to do a system reset when on a new firmware to ensure you are not carrying over old settings. The DX100 also did this.

Actually no Zaroof I had issues on 1.00 with it not detecting my cards all the time. It was quite annoying. 1.11 and 1.21 fixed this.

Good idea to try a full reset, I'll do that.

Otherwise, it seems different firmwares are touchy with different cards, maybe. Until I updated to 1.32 I've never had any problem whatsoever with SD cards unmounting/not showing. Strange...

Same here for me.  No SD card dismounting issues on 1.00, but had intermittent issues with one or both SD cards dismounting suddenly since upgrading to 1.21.  Been emailing iriver support for more than 3 weeks but to no avail.

I did a full reset and scan the DB again and it seem to have fixed the issue.  Haven't had this issue with 1.30 or 1.32 too.  Was thinking there might be some coding changes that get cause the SD card to disengage when using 1.21 or later firmware with 1.00 DB.

Finally upgraded to 1.32 after a/b at headphone meet in Los Angeles.  One was better with the ES10 and the other with the ED8 so i favored the one better with the ED8, which was the new firmware.  Also nice to have the additions if needed.   There were only subtle differences in the firmware but i could hear them on both phones clearly.  JMoon was very helpful at the AK booth.

I'm happy to report that the 2.8MHz DSD download of Mahler's Symphony No. 2 by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra works great on 1.32.  No album art but that's not a biggie to me.  I'm not sure yet if the sound quality of the DSD is better than a hi-res FLAC version I have laying around to justify the extra cost of such a download but I'll do a comparison once I find it.  Also, I'm running without problems with two 64GB Sandisk Ultra MicroSDXC Class 10.  I left them to their default formatting, which I believe is exFat.

I went to the LA meet up today and I have to say the AK120 never sounded better than with the UE Custom Reference Monitors. Truly hard to imagine better if flat response is your goal.

I'm very tempted.
