Slightly OT. Have you done a review of your 8.As before Jim? If you haven't, I would value your input on the 8.A thread, as I know your experiences have been very mixed
I've just posted my impressions on the IEM itself. Not really sure if I want to even delve into a review. I'm willing to share my thoughts of them if you want but it's not gonna all be pretty lol. I actually sold my 8As a couple days ago. I shipped them off yesterday. I also sold the Kaede a few days ago. I'm getting my ear impressions done tomorrow and will be sending them off to Spiral Ears for the SE5 ;).
Still my experience with them hasn't all been negative to be fair. With the proper source and cabling I think they were quite capable. The bass was generally my biggest issue with the IEM. It was simply too prominent. Enough so to make the IE8s sound bass light in some respects lol. But if used on a good pairing source it calmed the bass down enough to where I could actually enjoy the warm signature. Still I found myself always using them at relatively low volumes or the bass would still overwhelm me. My 8As were extremely sensitive. I'd say on par in sensitivity to the Fit Ear 334s... I also found I had to be in the mood for the 8As sound opposed to my other IEMs where it really didn't matter. Strangely enough while the 8A sounded nothing like the AKG3003s it had a similar effect on me. While cleaning house or cooking I really enjoyed using them (basically while being distracted). It was very musical and enjoyable and it gave me drive in a sense to do the choirs. The isolation they gave was a huge plus for me. Made it much easier to ignore people around the house. But made it annoying when they are flagging me down and I have to pull them out :P.
I'm also very curious how much IEMs in general can vary (Quality control). As my opinions are rather different from some members yet spot on with other members... Another headfier purchased a pair of Heir 4Ais and was extremely underwhelmed/disappointed in the product. She quickly sold them off, come to find her friends pair of 4Ais sounded much much better than the previous pair she had. Enough so where she decided to opt for another pair of 4Ais. Do you see my point here? I'm wondering if QC is playing a roll in some of our perceptions of the IEMs. More so recently some have posted on the 8As and did not mention the bass being problematic. But in my case I found the 8As to be very picky to pair on gear to get my desired sound. I'm just curious how much of this is attributed to preference, fit or if there are indeed variations in the models sound....
