Iriver is behaving like a child. He did not say anything about the ak100 and 64.
Format ExFat calculated 128.
I do not think iriver did ak120 limitations.
It will be an opportunity, we just try.smile.gif

You could always buy a second one and cards for it, then you double your space....very_evil_smiley.gif

Spend the day comparing the AK120 dac section against ODAC while feeding it to portaphile 627x. I can say safely that ODAC has better dynamic, the same clarity and much louder output.  Can't say I am too pleased about that.

Also a side note in regarding of 627x it is really picky of input signal so I guess that perhaps with a different amp AK120 might shine better? I can test that but I leave it to some other time, time to listen to music.

So that basically means AK120 is a good source if you have a lot of HD tracks and like to use it on the go, beside that I want to say AK120 is going to really struggled compared to anything desktop related.

Seems like the Wolfson 8740 DAC, be it single or dual design, seems to be playing second fiddle to Sabre DACs, such as desktop and DX100 driven ESS9018 DAC and even the lower spec ESS9023 DAC found in ODAC.

It is probably matter of preference but I like what I hear from ODAC more. 627x already as a smooth and mellow sound, adding a warm source seems to be just too much for my taste.

I still like what I hear from AK120 as a stand alone DAP when I pair it with CK100PRO and ES10 however I really think those who like to purchase these for portable desktop DAC should hear it compared to other portable DAC before jumping on it.

I find the Sabre DACs tend to have this slight edge in sound as it is a bit more engaging.

Hearing the Wolfson DACs on their own is perfectly fine. Though when placed in a comparison, my preference tends to sway towards the Sabre DACs more.

Agree, though i still enjoy the the Wolfson DAC driven players as they are.

I wonder if iriver brings a AK200 with a sabre DAC installed?

AK400 features dual Sabre Dac! and it's only $5000!

anyway, but i agree on the sabre dac bit. today i went into store aiming for a AK120 but then they also have a dx100 in store for audition. after spending almost 2 hrs of listening, i walked out of the  store with a dx100 knowingly R10 proably sounds better.

no doubt Ak120 is a pretty good sounding dap but dx100 is just so smooth and has unique characteristics to me that i just wouldn't deny....

now i really wonder how would hm901 sound....

Also I am down with 2500 Yen for sure :P 2500 USD I know even they realize that will be pushing it beyond the point of ridiculious.

I think for portable DAP I am happy for AK120. Its size and battery life is good enough for me. Time for me to purchase a nice set of headphone and start thinking of having a good desktop setup. As far as DAP goes I will be an active reader, I am done with spending money on them.

Curious to hear about opinions on closed back phone recommendations, should get AK120 next week and thinking of trying with Fostex TH 600 / Beyer Tp5, have W4 good for flights but at times to isolating (office)

The WM8740 DAC is imo a pretty limited DAC chip. I've never been impressed with any of the offerings I've heard. Conversely, I have been very impressed with every Sabre DAC offering I've heard. The WM8741 wasn't too bad - of course implementation has so much to do with it. Regardless, I wasn't impressed with iriver using the 8740 in their astronomically priced (imo) DAPS.

Really?  That's not what I wanted to hear.  I'm using my 64GB microSDXC cards right out of the box, formatted as exFAT.  I wonder if formatting as FAT32 might overcome that limitation?  I have a microSDXC to SDXC adapter that I used with my iBasso DX-100.  It allowed me to use a 128GB SDXC card in the microSDXC slot.  I'm going to try that with the AK120...just because I'm curious.

Will let you know what happens...

If the AK120 melts or implodes or changes into a sansa clip please post pictures.
