The Astell & Kern AK120 - Page 94

Tupac why are you selling your AK120?
Do you prefer DX100 instead?

Anyone compare the AK120 to Teclast T51 (or similar Nationite sflo:2) ? They also use twin Wolfson 8740, but can't play high-rez.

What opamp (or headphone amp chip) does the AK120 use AFTER the DACs?

What I do is turn the unit off and than charge it. Upon pressing the on button once it will display a text message whether the unit is charging or it is fully charge. I can never tell if my unit is fully charged when I have it on and connected for charging.

I don't think they compare honestly. Had 2 Sflo2s and I'd say the Rocoo BA was an upgrade over it. I don't see it as being in league with the Studio nor the AK120. To top it off the UI on the Sflo2 makes the Studios UI look like a walk in the park.... redface.gif

Still the Sflo2 for it's time was quite a good sounding player at a decent price. Although it's quite dated now. When I had one I specifically used it through its LO. Wasn't a fan of the HO (the amp section left much to be desired personally).

It does take a while to fully charge if you use it for more than an hour or so. I really do not know why that is.

Well I did drain it down this time to try calibrate and condition the battery. Battery life seems good though. I think I'm getting around 14 hours of usage which is more than enough for me. Generally I'll try to charge the battery before getting below half usage. I'm doing the same on my other DAP as well. I hear its not good to constantly drain them and recharge.

sound wise, I prefer dx100 of course. But I sold AK120 not because it didn't sound as good. It's just not what I am really after. The previous firmware sounded good, the new one just reduced its portable value significantly, because it sounds average for all my CIEMs and improves when amping. I have a desktop DAC for home usage.

So basically I don't see me using that a lot which is such a waste.

If I plug on wall charger during the unit ON , I can not turn it OFF.
I must unplug first and shut off my unit and than I plug it again.
Now the charging sign show up and down constantly .
After about 6 hours the charging sign show :.FULLY CHARGE .

On go solution would either be dx100 + CIEMs or IPC rockboxed with 1+2 or JH16;)

Rockboxed IPC + 1+2 is my favourite actually;)  Best UI, small size, longest battery and one of the best sound (maybe THE best) I have ever heard. But this requires some serious EQ setting. ;)

and sorry about the ak120 ;P

Still waiting for Jmoon to post the 1.00 firmware.  I can totally do without the usb dac until another version with 1.00 sound plus the usb dac.
