Not appropriate to post in this thread, I'm just thinking out loud, but do people genuinely hear a difference in sound quality between firmware updates, or is it just it their brain? The analogy with driver updates makes sense, but does it actually exist?

I honestly could not, but I do admit my sonic memory is incredibly poor.

On 1.21, I also notice the unit getting very slightly warm when used as a usb dac.  Didn't find it warm with standalone playback though.  I did experience my first issue with sd card - both cards became unmounted and the playback stopped.  Restarting solved this and I wasn't able to reproduce the error.

The sonic change for me is for the better with the FT334 as the new firmware made the mid bass faster and less bloated.  Treble also has more presence now.  I also tested with ER4S and RE400 but the change is less noticeable than with the 334. I think the 1.21 move it to more neutral as it was a tad warmer and bassy with 1.00 to me.

I also find the UI a bit more responsive than 1.00 when navigating around.

The AK Germany site actually had an 1.0 firmware posted before but it was gone just now I checked. It was listed as 1.0 on the support page but the file I downloaded has a 1.20 filename. My unit remains 1.0 after applying this file. Was trying to find the file and upload for us but unfortunately I must have deleted it as I thought it is not useful.

The new firmware is awesome with both the FitEar ToGo! 334 and MH335DW, but not so good with C435.

Where before the FW update., it was the C435 that shone on the AK120normal_smile%20.gif

It is fantastic amped!!!

I don't see what is so hard to grasp about this. Humans are no way near perfect and that applies to the stuff they create as well. As mentioned above some drivers can perform better with gear than others (OS, GPU, Sound Card, etc). It's all in the coding and I'm sure this is having an impact on the sound (there really is no other explanation for this). While this may not be ideal its just the way it is. Now if you don't notice the differences then more power to you.

Lee I think the effect is also dependent on the headphone/iem paired. The 1.00 to 1.21 sonic change is much more pronounced on my 334 (and xba4) than the re400 or er4s. So it won't surprise me some don't feel there is sonic change for them.

I agree on this, some gear is more sensitive/more revealing than others. The 8A and 1Plus2 are revealing enough to show these changes easily. I basically tested on the 1Plus2 first and could hear the bass has noticeably leaned out with vocals being more forward & treble more airy. Overall the sound staging has noticeably expanded. Putting two and two together I figured this would benefit the 8As since when I became accustomed to 1.00 with the 8A I noticed how dull and lacking the vocals where on this pairing. Plus the bass was quite bloated on the 8As. Now they sound noticeably more balanced on the 8As with bass being more controlled and mids have more clarity to them. The sound staging also has more space which helps out the mids (tend to get a bit congested on the 8As).

My initial impression was quite favorable with FT334 on classical and live concerts, but now moving onto some metal, pop rock, hip hop tracks I really start to miss the bass impact.....

For those of you wanting to revert back to the 1.00 firmware, I should have a link for you guys to download very soon.

Could you please help find out why the Sound quality change every firmware update more, less bass etc. Can it be provide as configurable sound theme so I can select myself?

Newer firmware bass is too light and no full body sound

Is there an official firmware upgrade for the AK120 ? rolleyes.gif

it's only me or i dun feel any change with the sound. LOL.

maybe becoz i easily forget the sound signature.... (my bad)

but as far as i concern, i had to agree with KKCC, i felt like the song become warmer.

yet i dun have a clue about the bass. maybe becoz i dun usually play a song with a bass as a main point and i used to wear SE535 red that already had a light bass. rolleyes.gif

anyway, the USB DAC definately great improvement.

as for now. im still satisfied with the AK 120 sound.

maybe next time i'll try to compare two AK120 with a different firmware to objectively judging the sound. etysmile.gif

a bit off topic, is there any chance for AK100 for getting a USB DAC feature?

ps for edit:

found this at the web

For those of you guys who have a chance to audition the CK100PRO I highly recommend considering their current 50% price drop. It pairs incredibly well with the AK120. I cannot find one fault with it sonic wise.

The only issue I have is the stick tip which can easily be fixed by using a sony hybrid silicons.
