Yeah, Amazon carries them. Like Rawster said, look for compressed air. They carry them everywhere from Target, Office Depot, Walmart. They probably have them at Walgreens. They are a couple of dollars for a small can.

Hopefully soon the FiiO X5. Although could be simply buying an iPod classic for UI convenience , what do you think?

Wouldn't the output impedance be too high with the iPod classic? Or does this iem not conform to the rules?

I just run these tests (http://www.audiocheck.net/soundtests_headphones.php) trough this chain

foobar wasapi event -> FiiO E18 low gain bass boost off -> SE846 (with white filters)

I found out that with the 4th test (the bass shaker), at some given point when the bass is still low, I hear the bass more on the left then on the rigt. Not sure if this is the bass or a "rattle", but it centers itself back after changing freq....

When hearing music I can't hear a balance shift in any way, but this test made me sceptical...what do you think?

True, I believe you can hear hissing with the classic headphone jack.  You can tap into the LO though.

High output impedance behaves as a voltage divider so any noise floor would be lower.  That said yes the Classic has a highish output so it will suck out the mids some.

Actually, my bad neither of is correct.  There is no direct correlation with hiss with output impedance, it can cause FR change or hiss.  But, based on my experience, players with high output impedance hisses.  Especially the Sony Z-1051 with 16ohm output.

Guys,

What is the best source DAP to use with these? I'd prefer to spend under $1,000. I am a little lost because of the whole 9ohm impedance situation. From what I gather, I should have a source or amp with an output impedance with 1ohm due to the 1/8th rule. I've picked up a Fiio X3, but the UI is driving me nuts and it isn't sorting files properly when in album mode even with the latest firmware. I do believe the Fiio X3 has an output impedance of 0.3ohm out of the headphone output though. Should I just wait on the X5? Anyone got one they are selling? I'd be willing to consider an AK, but none of them have an output impedance lower than 3ohms. I have heard mention of the iPod Touch 5th gen, because it has a low output impedance, but wouldn't I need to use an amp with it, thus defeating the purpose of it having a 1ohm headphone output impedance? What amp would be good to pair it with if I used my HTC One or iPod touch / nano / iPad with lightning connector?

I have the following source units:

iPod classic(R) Gen 5.5 80GB - White

iPod nano 7th gen

iPad Mini w/ Retina Display

Fiio X3

HTC One

IEM's

Westone 4R

Shure SE846

AMP

RSA Tomahawk

Thanks,

Y2J

If you have to go by the 8:1 ratio, then you have to look at their minimum impedance not their impedance at 1KHz.  Which would be 4ohm so you need a DAP with a 0.5ohm output.  That's going to be a short list ;)
