Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread - Page 4

Ok, the 900 provides a much more realistic image than the 600, i feel i am in the park, the pub, the theatre or studio.
With the HD600 i always felt a slight disconnect , it was the cinema to the 900s theatre.
On a more technical basis i believe the 900 has a better balance of bass to mids, the treble is slightly more detailed as well.
There is something about the 900s that sounds for lack of a better word 'right' , they make me forget about analyzing the music , they make me smile , they disappear and i lose track of time.

What you are talking about is basically why I have trouble listening to Senns for extended period of times even if the Senn has a tonal balance I enjoy. I've always heard the slight disconnect on basically every Senn I have heard, it almost engages you but never really does. I always thought it was something off with the presentation on Senns. The MA900s sound reminds me a whole lot of the AKG sound personally, it just nails the musical presentation and just sucks you into the music and makes you enjoy the music and tap your feet to the music, they just sound right to me.

You made me suspicious to invest in HD600.

The HD 600 and HD 650 are good headphones, I prefer them to all of the HD 5x5 and 5x8 series of Senns, I understand why so many like them, especially with a high-end system behind them, but their presentation isn't ideal for me and they are overpriced currently, when it was around $250 it was a good buy. But when you can get something like the MA900 for around around $170 sometimes less or something like the AKG Q701 for around $240, I can't see getting the HD 600 or HD 650 unless you really enjoy the Sennheiser sound. The HD 600/650 is also quite demanding of amplification, not necessarily in terms of powering them but rather the quality of the amplification and the source, same with any AKG the K240 family and up. I wouldn't invest in them unless you are willing to put some money into a good amp and dac. Something like the Magni/Modi is the lowest end I would I suggest with them.

I've read a post or two about people selling their HE-500s after purchasing the MA900...that's quite a testament to the Sonys.  Making me seriously consider picking up a pair just to compare myself.  Has anyone here heard the two side by side?

Yeah... I almost regret I have them already biggrin.gif

by the way... you can use mail forwarding companies, I live in Georgia (not in US) and I can buy from USA, Germany and UK. you send your item to company's address and they will send you afterwards. You pay shipping cost of course.

Are they sibilant with female vocals? My K240 is a bit sibilant to my ears, i need something smoother and non fatiguing.

It's a great headphone. One of the best values out there, hopefully more will come to realize how good it is. I do want to get an AKG K612 eventually and see how it compares to the MA900.
